But by becoming less violent, could football become less entertaining?

I think his point, also misplaced, is that the concern over concussions is changing the way the game is played. I do not think that is the case. It is just changing equipment and treatment of injured players.

And the newspaper industry wonders why fewer and fewer people read newspapers and/or even go online to read articles. Remember the "good old days" when a person could wake up in the morning and read the Morning News, Times Herald or Star-Telegram and be entertained and informed for a half-hour or so. So sad that it now attracts so little talent.

If you go to the Dallas Observer tonight, you will see that Richie has posted a "mea culpa" of sorts to Derrius. Unfortunately, it doesn't make up for the fact that he decided to post that article last week. Derrius was kind enough to do an interview with him, which is probably a lot more than I would have done for this yahoo. I think it is clear that all of us support the courageous decision that Derrius had to make in this case. While it may have been a tough one, it was the right one, and I wish the best of luck to him going forward.

Richie, you are a pathetic hypocrite. First, you disparage Derrius Bell for giving up football, implying that he was a "wussy" in your blog article and that decisions like his make the game "less entertaining" in your words, and now you go out of your way to state that he is doing a courageous thing. If you are trying to be controversial, or gather page hits, questioning the toughness of a kid is not the way to go about doing it. Is this article a make up for the drivel you posted on line last week, and more importantly, did you bother to apologize to Derrius and his family for the article you wrote last week? If you don't think you upset his family, I'd suggest that you take a look at Ponyfans.com and you will very quickly see otherwise.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I have not seen a CB in a long time that hit with the reckless abandon that Darius did. Shame this led to his injury and early retirement from the game, but he made the right choice. It is a very mature choice to walk away from something that you love yet could seriously impair you or even kill you if you continue. Keep your head up Darius, and don't let idiots like this guy ever tell you your anything less then a devastating football player.
