If the Big East was looking to go to 12 I would agree, but if only Rutgers is lost then the Big East will most likely only add Central Florida and be satisfied.
UCF does nothing to protect their BCS dreams/lawsuit threat. TCU does. Travel costs are so far down the list of anyones worries right now.
UCF adds a 50,000 student university and a HUGE alumni base and a stronger foothold in the Florida market...they are going for TVs and TCU doesn't bring that.

TCU is really just about as weak as we are here. The MWC is going to be raided and they will have fewer options. I just don't see any big conference interested in them. They have all the same problems we have...small private school without much fan support locally and little to very little interest nationally. TCU also has the added burden of being damn good at football...bottom line, no conference already in the BCS would want to invite them.
I think SMU's best shot is for the Big 12 to implode and for us to form a new conference with the left overs and a few of our C-USA West buddies.
If the Big 12 survives, which it very well might if they replace Nebraska and MIzzou with BYU and Utah, then both SMU and TCU are looking squarely at getting left out.

Not when you talk Big East. Their slots are filled on the basketball side and they aren't taking Texas schools unless they go above 8 on football.
they'll figure it out and make it work. value is value right now. hell TCU might drop basketball to get into a bcs hopeful league. My point is all bets are off when you hear the Big 12 commish in what amounts to a panic.

Well the issue there is whether the BB(only) schools will form a new conference and Football/BB schools will form a new all sport conference.

Television markets are more important than alumni bases. Even so, the Big East has turned down TCU before. The Big East does not need TCU, and they have demonstrated before that if they do not need them they do not want them. While I believe the Big East will take UCF, I also hold that they should go to 12. I simply do not expect their stubbornness to end by choice.

I really think what was brought up on another thread is attractive for the Big XII: Louisville, BYU and Memphis. Three states, so whatever that does to help TV $, there you go.

they will have to go to 12 or risk perishing not doubt about it. maybe i'm entirely wrong, its just a prediction, but things are different this time and of the targets the Beast could attract, TCU has more current BSC arguement value (not tv value, which is somewhat different i maintain) than anyone else feasible.

if youre BYU Utah wouldnt you rather head to the pac-10? if you get an invite to the big-12, dont you just leverage that to get into the Pac-10?

I think outside of the slim chance the Pac-10 or SEC wanted to play in the texas market and couldnt land a bigger fish, the MWC could be our best option. If it becomes a BCS conference it would end up being a very very good option.

It is not out of the realm of possibility. With the correct additions elsewhere, as well as significant fortune in the coming seasons, the MWC could still argue to become a BCS conference in this scenario.
