Hey FrogFace, who would you rather have in your conference, SMU or SDSU?

Good point. The problem with the MWC is the bottom, not the top. My model for the WAC & MWC is a relegation system where the bottom two teams in the MWC would move down to the WAC, while the top Two teams from the WAC would move up to the MWC. Its like the European professional soccer model where the bottom teams are relegated to lower divsions while the up and coming teams get promoted. The conferences would swap two teams per year. Had this system been in place this year, Boise & Nevada would have been promoted to the MWC. New Mexico & Colorado State would have gotten the boot. After a few years, the result would be that the MWC would be loded with the best teams from both conferences and it would be a BCS conference. I like this idea, but its so fair that it probably wouldn't work in the intitlement world of college football.

Somewhat agree except that they haven't gotten the mtn on Metroplex basic cable yet; if they want to do that, taking SMU (or...gasp...UNT) would help.

Great post Johnny; well articulated idea but like you said, it wouldn't work.

ESPNU said that the Mountain West would add Boise State very soon.

UH obviously brings a little of the Houston media market, but it just doesn't have the booster money SMU/TCU has for upgrades. UH has a weak stadium and in general their facilities need $$$ improvement. They are just a decent stepping stone for coaches to a bigger program. Rice is certainly in much better financial condition if they ever decided they really want to compete in football.

With rumors of possible Utah, Colorado State, BYU, Air Force, and TCU maybe leaving for better offers, why in the h@#$ would Boise State jump at an offer from the MWC right now ??? No way.

TCU will not have the opportunity to leave. A conference with TCU, Boise State, and considerable fortune, may still be capable of arguing for BCS status.

Oh, I think TCU will have an opportunity to leave after TEXAS etc. also leave the big 12. Don't believe everything being said now. Its going to get interesting after Nebraska leaves and this deal is just going to get bigger.

Wow! Can I come to your pity party? LOL! I think you're in the same boat as us big boy so don't get too over confident. LOL!

I'm not over confident at all. In fact, the odds of TCU landing in a BCS conference aren't very good. As long as Texas, A&M, Tech & Baylor are together in some way or form, TCU is not going to get an upgrade. If Texas leaves for the SEC or Pac 10, our odds get a lot better.

Here are the scenarios for TCU
1. TCU will land in a watered down Big 12 after the top 5 or so teams from the conference jump ship (only if Texas jumps).
2. TCU will stay with BYU in a 12 team MWC. Utah will jump ship and will be replaced by Boise, Nevada, Fresno State and SMU.
3. TCU will land iwith some of the Big East football schools with some C-USA.

TCU's propects aren't that great as long as Texas stays with the Big 12. But I'm not blaming any school for not sticking with us.

Do no forget Houston. They are more attractive than we are. Not physically, of course.

But one could say that SMU is more attractive than Nevada, which would add almost no market. Plus, it has been shown that SMU is superior to Nevada in football.

The problem for SMU in that equation is that the MWC is trying to get BCS AQ status. They easily satisfy 2 of the 3 requirements (number of ranked teams and highest ranked team), but they are below the cutoff for the third requirement--average computer ranking of the teams in their conference.

Adding Boise State helps the MWC, but doesn't push them over the top. So, every team they add needs to boost their average in the 2008-2011 seasons. SMU had a solid season last year, but SMU's 2008 computer ranking would kill the MWC. Nevada had a winning record in both 2008 and 2009 and they played a decent nonconference schedule so their computer ranking is not bad (better than 5 of the 9 MWC teams).

The big question mark for the MWC is that the 2010 and 2011 results are not know yet of course. They have to guess which teams will do well over the next 2 seasons. The image of the Hawaii Bowl might help SMU there.

After hanging up the phone with Boise State and letting them know they are “In,” the next physical action the Mountain West should take is to start dialing the University of Houston to extend them an invitation to join, and follow that up by issuing an offer to Fresno State as well.

While they are at it, they should go ahead and grab Nevada, UTEP, SMU, and Tulsa and call it a day.

It is far time the myth is exposed. Despite all of TCU's success, they simply don't carry any interest beyond Ft. Worth in the Metroplex. SMU doesn't carry the Metroplex because of our past record. As we continue to improve (partially in response to the Frogs demonstrating you can succeed without the BCS), maybe we can re-claim the area one day.
