I do not want us to be a Vandy of the West. They are totally irrelevant to that conference. As great as it would be to be a part of that conference I would rather be apart of a conference where we can at least be competitive and I think that would be possible with the MWC or C-USA or even with the leftovers of the Big 12

They were the 2nd best bball team in the conference last year...

They have higher academic standards than we do...if we ever got in the SEC we would be able to compete simply by being the only school from Texas...

I was mainly just referring to their football team. And lets be honest we don't have a great basketball team and we don't even have baseball which is also a big part of that conference. They have 4 teams in the super regionals this week. We need to take a lot more steps before I think we could even be considered by the SEC

You are clinically insane if you would ever pass up a BCS conference and the MILLIONS of dollars that come with it in order to stay in CUSA.

If you are more interested in winning against sub-par competition than competing at the highest level, please go be a fan of a non DI-A team. Of course, if too many at SMU think like you, we might just be the DII team you need soon.

Funny, I made that suggestion when the SWC was falling apart.

I would love to have the millions of dollars and it would great to say we are apart of the SEC, but in the long run I would hate to be like Baylor or Vanderbilt where we are constantly at the bottom of the conference and have get used to losing and just having an oh well at least were part of the SEC or Big 12 mentality.

We are a much, much better football team right now. Sagarin, for instance, has us forty spots ahead of Vanderbilt.

This is true and I think we do have a better football team than Vandy, but I think in a conference like the SEC the focus is not on academics besides Vandy. Not to mention we would be in the West division which would be incredibly tough with Alabama, LSU, and other teams now back on the rise like Auburn and Arkansas.

Yes. God forbid we become good by playing better competition in a better conference that would translate to better recruits and better teams. We best just drop the sport altogether. That way we never lose.

I'm just saying look at Vandy they went through a 20 plus year bowl drought and haven't been competitive since they went to their bowl game 2 years ago. And look at baylor in a conference with better competition. They were in the top 4 teams of the SWC and went to the Alamo Bowl in 94 and then they went to the Big 12 where even with the chance of getting better recruits and going against tougher competion they have yet to go to a bowl game. I am not wanting to give up, I just believe that just because you are a member of an elite conference that doesn't make one a better athletic program. Look at Boise and other schools like Utah, BYU, and Houston who are in lesser conferences, yet are consistently in the top 25.

We would be able to wallpaper the inside of our buildings with 100 dollar bills. I'll take it. Besides, we were worthless in two terrible conferences for 15 years. Might as well be worthless in the best of them.

UGA has a very strong academic reputation. LSU is a Tier I school now as is Florida. MSU has a nationally recognized engineer department and is second to none in animal husbandry. Arkansas has upped its game as the Beloved Razorbacks no long accept GED students as automatic acceptance students. To say the SEC isn’t serious about academics is just not facing reality.

And most kids would rather play in front of 100,000 Little UT, Alabama, or LSU fans than play in front of 50 -60 Rice or UAB fans.

There's a joke in there somewhere.
