Memphis and Louisville would be a better combo. BYU's not gonna give 10M to the conference coffers the way Memphis is

Any scenerio where TCU is added to the Big 12 will be considered a colossal failure by UT/A&M/etc.

I dont think Memphis can get its academics up to level UT can accept. Byu covers the stench of taking a Louisville commuter school.

Haven't read "lock", but wasn't Colorado and Utah the PAC10's choice awhile back before all hell broke loose? Killerfrogs said Utah is the strongest school in the MWC, (not sure what measurement they use) and that switching Boise and Utah prolly wouldn't secure anything for MWC. Think the best thing we can hope for is Utah to go PAC10 and then TV study to reveal BIG12 should pick up BYU and maybe Air force for more market coverage crushing MWC. TCU would have to either go Indy, or come back to CUSA. I hate to admit it, we need TCU. At this point, they are UT and we are Tech/Baylor. Hopefully, this stalls the rest of the expansion and gives June and the administration time to win games and be "Top 25 in everything we do". <i hate that line, only because we are so FAR from being top 75 in everything we do> :?

Okay, the PAC 10 wants to move into Texas and Oklahoma markets. I'm sure that SMU, TCU, Rice, UH and Tulsa are awaiting their calls.

Is your conclusion based on an assumption that conferences may not go to 16 in this time of expansion?

I don't think the MWC makes enough TV $$ hosting a championship game to offset having 3 more mouths to feed. My guess is they hold at 9, with Boise a nice replacement for the loss of Utah (football, at least). TCU just has one more long(er) road trip, but a great potential rival in Boise. They've already played a couple of really exciting bowl games.

These guys do..........

As for the Mountain West, losing the Utes would drop them down to nine teams even after adding Boise State late last week.  Would they look to get back to ten?

They've played the last five years as a nine-team conference, but added the Broncos in the hopes of improving their shot at becoming an automatic BcS qualifier.  Losing Utah would seem to negate the BSU gain, and it's appears unlikely they could add a school from another conference who could bring what Utah does to the BcS table.

Houston and SMU -- don't laugh; June Jones has that program headed in the right direction -- of the Conference USA and Nevada and Fresno State of the WAC would seem like the next-best option at this point in time.

I think we'd need them to try and get to 14 to be a serious part of the expansion discussion. Hopefully that gives us another few years to keep the positive vibe around the program going. How badly do we need to have a good season this year?

does the MWC think they have an honest shot at a BCS money/inclusion with only 9 members? No way. they will at least have to go to 12 and hold championship
