I think it is best to wait until Jones make a public statement and let him work behind the scenes, some of you are fanning the flames without actual knowledge of really happened and are acting on "gut reaction" to the DMN article. DMN wants "hits" to their site, they worded their article to get a visceral reaction from the SMU fan base and they did, it sells paper and hits on their website. SMU has an impressive Board of wealthy people, don't turn them off by going after Turner and lose their allegiance and donations. Jones isn't going anywhere!

Looking back in your post history, you came on this board with Jones and posted from the perspective of someone in Hawaii.

If you are from Hawaii, you know nothing about the LONG history of Turner doing NOTHING to support athletics. Perhaps you only support Turner because his hidden lack of support looks so much better than Hawaii's blatant disdain and lack of support.

If you aren't Hawaii, you are a plant for the admin.

Ralph lives in Hawaii. I've known him for years and have met him in person several times.

I've read a lot of the complaints against Turner and did some research on my own...he is still better for Athletics than the people Hawaii have had in charge over the past few decades (but that isn't saying much).

I believe this equals your belief that BM should start over Padron.

While this may technically be true, I'd like to bring your attention to the fact that only two years ago we almost started spring ball without a head football coach. If June hadn't issued an ultimatum to Hawaii and if he hadn't been the stand-up guy he is and followed through on that ultimatum, there's no telling what sort of 2-bit coach we would have had to settle for.

No coach is irreplaceable... Maybe we could get Bennett, Cavan or heck, even Todd Dodge.

What isn't being said is that very few, if any, high school coaches will let an SMU recruiter on their campus if this decision stands. Those coaches don't like their players being deceived.

I don't care how wealthy the members of the BOT are and I don't care how many degrees the admissions committee collectively possesses, they're wrong in this situation. They lied to 2 young men, one that I know personally.

If this decision stands, whether Jones stays or not, the program is toast. You can't have a program without recruits.

Hopefully this wont be as bad as when every coach shut SMU out after Ralston Dews had his Schoalie pulled for no reason.

Seriously, this can really hurt recruiting but to make such a declarative statement as above, really prevents people from taking your position seriously.

There will be some who don't let SMU recruit their kids, but our coaches are sharp, charismatic, personable guys who can spin this. Some will be hacked off, but Reinebold, etc., can get through it.

There is no positive way to "spin" the fact that SMU denied admission to an athlete that met all requirements. All athletes that are not scholars must now understand the reality that SMU may not accept them, even if they meet all requirements. To ask one to commit to SMU, knowing that SMU has not committed to him, is simply asking for charity.

Then chances are he wasn't follwoing SMU back when Dave Bliss left because he could not get Larry Davis into SMU. There is precedent on the Hilltop of coaches leaving as a result of the admissions department interfering with recruiting.

One big difference between Hawaii and SMU. At Hawaii is was the AD's head that rolled, at SMU is has to be Turner's

It's upsetting to see the situation with these 2 kids - but can we say that this is common, or something we should really have everyone freaking out about?

I agree it's negative and not a great thing for SMU Football - but is this not something that happens elsewhere occasionally? I don't know - that's why I'm asking..

Perhaps growing pains of a school getting back into competitive football is grabbing kids that might be "borderline" students that would have been casualties in the long run?

Has TCU, Duke Basketball or other private universities run into this?
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
