Johnny, isn't the system being fixed? It's not fully built, but isn't it being fixed? And no, I've never said jack about the Sears cup and never plan to.

JR, not to split hairs here, but I think you mean 1-AA. Your point is made, though.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I think it says a lot seeing who the Chair is, not to mention the Hunts, Mr. Loyd, and Mr. Pettus. There may be others I don't recognize who have given large sums of money to the Athletic Dept. I think the bottom line is that given our history(DP), and the presumed (real or not, I do not know) sway of the faculty senate, sweeping or drastic changes aren't going to happen. That is the ultimate hangover of the DP is wrestling the faculty/anti-athletic faction.

I think I am begining to understand why so many people get upset with Stallion. While he makes valid arguements, and does indeed attempt to back them up with facts, very rarely does he suggest something constructive that we as fans of the program can do to change what he sees is wrong with the program. What is appalling to me is that even after calling out the Mustang Club for failing (as he sees it) to push the administration to make the changes he sees fit, rather than join that organization, and attempt to do anything about it, he is content to let them continue on in their current path and simply curse them from afar. To me that is just as bad as the cheerleaders of the program, in fact it is worse, because you know what is wrong and aren't doing anything to fix it. At least you aren't doing anything that I know of. Now, I'm going to write my letters to the Prez and Board of Trustees, and I encourage all of you to do the same. If however anyone who thinks that there is a problem with our program chooses to not do anything, but simply continue to complain, you will have lost all credibility, and can then count yourself as among the current problems with the atheltic program as it now stands.

This is my first post on this board, but I am a long time fan and grad of SMU. Believe me, Stallion hits the nail on the head every time.

SMU has handicapped itself since the DP. Right now, we are at a differing degree of handicapping ourselves.

It's basically a three step process to fix this program and it should have been done in 1989.

1) Add a General Studies major, Sports Management major, and a Health major.
2) Recruit JUCO players for the next three years.
3) Schedule cupcakes in August and September

Now let's get a campaign started to get this thing fixed. A website is a great start.

BTW, I am very very close friends with someone who sits on the SMU board of Trustees

Have you been bending that friend's ear? Does the Board of Trustees understand the urgency of getting the football program playing on a level field with, as Stallion would say, our natural and traditional rivals? Do they understand the consequences of not getting it done?

A winning football program has done wonders for TCU in increasing their alumni giving and in increasing the number of student applicants. Does the Board of Trustees understand that concept and how it could help SMU too? I sure as hell hope so!

Monday night at SMU, I am participating in an alumni research project. Now I have no idea what this is about, but you can be sure that the state of SMU football will be a brought up.

To answer your question, I have told him over and over again about what needs to be done, but I get the same response - 'give it some time'.

What these idiots don't understand is that with each passing year... that is one more class of alums who couldn't care less about SMU. All of the old money that comes in for these campaigns comes from alums who graduated when SMU was a power in football. With the way things are and have been since 89, there will be no more Hunts or Fords out there.

My brother-in-law is a Frosh at SMU right now. He could care less about SMU football.
