is this the Paul Crawford discussed on the recruiting board? if so, I thought he was an in-coming freshman as a 'late qualifier'? or, is this a different player?

I think the beginning of the season will be tough as the young and new starters get comfortable with everything that comes with being a first time starter and playing as a 18 and 19 year olds. I do think the Mustangs can go 7-5 head to a bowl and win hopefully. I would call that a good seson. I do expect the butt kickin to begin 2011 with the first snap of the season.
GO MUSTANGS!

6 FR-HS DBs
A couple of redshirt freshmen DBs
Plus a number of lettermen

Don't forget that Chris Banjo is returning after playing in 25 games and starting 12 over the past two years. He should be solid at one safety spot.

I'm not overly concerned about our DBs because I expect more pressure on the opposing QB from our front 7; barring injuries, I expect this year's team to finish no worse than 6-7 wins

It's not really "doom and gloom" because I think we are still in the "baby steps"
phase and 5 or 6 wins this season will still be acceptable. Next year 2011
is when we should see great change.

I think some SMU fans due to last year's success are deluding themselves into
illusions of grandeur too quickly as far as expectations for the coming season.

Besides Shawnbrey McNeal, Emmanuel Sanders, and Chase Kennemer all being gone
I was thinking this morning just about our defensive backfield.

Last year's starting cornerbacks Bryan McCann & Derrius Bell BOTH GONE.
Last year's sometimes starting cornerback Sterling Moore has turf toe. (not good)
Last year's nickel back Bryce Hudman GONE!
Last Year's safety Rock Dennis GONE!

A DB that were supposed to step up this year JR McConico is GONE!.
Another DB supposed to step up this year Kevion Gamble is in Junior College so GONE!.

I am hopeful but think we need to be realistic about this year and realize it is another
"baby step" towards our goal.

To be honest, the "doom and gloom" club, seems to be down to it's original member and founder.

Had anyone else made that post, IPP would be calling them a doom & gloomer and posting inspirational June Jones quotes.

We have a better season starting QB with experience back this year. We have an experienced O-line and receiver corp. We have an experienced D-line and linebacker corp. We have a solid and experienced kicker returning. We have a year of knowing how to win returning. We have the best recruiting class in decades coming to camp. We have an intact coaching staff that has worked with these kids for 3 years returning.

We have more fans planning to attend (season ticket sells up) then last year.

As always, we have to replace solid players. Every team does. We do have a slightly more difficult schedule but we have much of it at home.

If we stay healthy, continue to reduce mistakes and have kids develop and improve, we could have a great season. All is not doom and gloom but Sept is going to be one heck of a month for this team to prove itself. No need to hold our horses back.

It's time to let these Ponies run!

Again, I've got us at 6-6 or 7-5. But there is a *chance* we break out of this thing big time a year or two early. It would start with a win over Tech or TCU. We get one of those two and look out.

This year is hard to predict. Our only "sure" losses are Tech and TCU, but at the same time we could easily lose 4 or so more teams without it being too much of an upset if one at all. Injuries will really control our destiny.

In other words, who knows, let's just enjoy the ride.
