Today's independents:

- Notre Dame
- BYU
- Navy
- Army

Tomorrow's independents:

- Hawai'i

Possible independents
- Air Force
- TCU
- SMU

Interesting symmetry?

No. We are not a possible independent. Neither is TCU. Suggesting us as a possible independent is ridiculous.

How in the world would SMU survive as an independent?

Our football schedule would quickly start to look like our basketball schedule. TCU, Ark-Little Rock, UTSA, East Dallas Schools for the Blind, etc.

We'd still blackball NTSU, though.

The possibility exists that TCU will not tolerate a MWC without Utah and BYU. Except for Boise State, the Frogs will not be pleased in 2011.

They earned better results for themselves. If an significant number of independents can schedule each other, they can could create a virtual conference or alliance. So the best of ND, BYU, Navy, Army, Hawai'i, Air Force and a TCU, who bets on themselves could get a BCS bid, especially if an extra BCS Bowl, like the Cotton Bowl is added. That group looks good to me, plus we could add WCC BB or Big East BB only schools.

Pweesey wrote:well the hopes of MWC becoming an AQ are gone, and they aren't coming back. You may read TCU fans acting like they're glad to be rid of BYU, but don't believe if for a second. There is no silver lining. Losing the 2 Utah schools in favor of Fresno and Nevada is a killer.

Now let's see if they go after 2 CUSA schools. I doubt we will be one, but I think I'd rather stay in CUSA anyway if everyone else stays. Tough call.

I'm a TCU fan and I am genuinely glad they are gone. They were acting like the Whorns, only without the achievements. TCU comes out of this as the premere mid-major program. All hail king of the midgets!

WCJ are you sure you know what you're saying? This move basically makes TCU's move to the MWC a huge mistake!!! It was a gamble that was looking very good earlier this summer, but now what is TCU doing in that conference?

By adding Fresno State and Nevada, thus crippling the WAC, they thought that BYU would be forced to stay in the MWC. Now that BYU has gone indy anyway I think they have hurt themselves more than helped. I think they are forced to make more moves now.
When will I start feeling stimulated??

The new kingmaker in any new scenario is likely to be ESPN. They can design and create a new offering with ingredients such as:

- FB schools like BSU, TCU, UCF and Houston (perhaps the Ponies)
- BB Inter-league
- Good markets in Florida, Texas, Colorado, Nevada and California
- A fifth BCS Bowl (Cotton)
- A MWC/CUSA Auto-qualifer game

At the same time, they will be looking at BYU FB games and a better WCC BB league.
