Carefull not to start to sound more like Custer than Patton.

"No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his!" -- Actual Patton

I was quoting the movie. But the other quote works too -- I love that line.

Go Mustangs!!

I'll put it to you this way couch'em, if you don't think you can do it, then you've already lost. You respect your opponent but you also know that you have the better team to beat them. We have the better team.

This is exactly my point. I haven't seen many people on here arguing that they have the better team. I haven't seen many argue that we will likely lose. I've seen most people say "wait a minute, Rice is not a team to overlook". I agree with that statement. It will likely not be a blow out. Our players need to not look past this game and fall into the 'trap'.

I think we beat them, but I don't see us pulling Padron in the 3rd because we are crushing them. If that's your definition of panic, you are crazy, or wasting your time on a DISCUSSION forum.

I have said we're better. We'll win and we'll cover the 9.5

I have also said that the quotes I used at the beginning of this thread were nonsense.

I think you should be like the new and improved jtstang and expect a competitive effort out of these boys in every game. So far I have not been disappointed.

We will be fine...and will win by a good margin...these three early games have prepared the team for the conference well.
Our talent is superior and the depth being equal between us will show the SMU talent in the second half.

the extra day of rest helps alot after tcu, but until we win one in Rice Stadium, i dont know how anybody can be cocky about this matchup.

In the last year we are a combined 1-0 to Rice.

If I remember that 2009 game correctly, we stormed back to take a 30-21 lead and then they scored a TD late to make it 30-28 and then Bradley Haynes covered the onside kick?

Anybody?

From the AP story last year:

McNeal scored on a 9-yard run in the fourth to give SMU a 31-20 lead. Rice narrowed the SMU lead to 31-28 with 1:47 left when Nick Fanuzzi threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Toren Dixon and the Owls converted the 2-point conversion.

I gotta agree with George S Patton, Rice scares the Hades out of me. All this talk about how great SMU is and how we are superior is so much hogwash.

We have to prove it Saturday and not just pound our chest like Tarzan and expect a double digit win.

Our defense, should, if they execute, stuff what little running game Rice tries to generate. We should get several turnovers from Rice's 1939 Poland air force like pass offense. Our secondary has improved, they just have to execute.

We should run all over Rice's less than stellar defense. Butler and Fields can do this if Line is unavailable or limited.

And our pass O should explode this Saturday. All this is should if we execute.

Our biggest issue has been specialty team play. And that could kill us against a lesser opponent. It would be the first time specialty teams cost us.

Prepare, practice hard and execute Saturday or face a very strong chance that Rice pulls an upset.

Should isn't will and that is what worries some of us.
