I think the DMN has been covering the ponies pretty well this year. I subscribe, and the Mustang story is on the front page of the sports page with a color picture with a decent sized article.
I appreciate the coverage they give us and the job Kate does. Considering how many more of their readers are probably interested in the Horns, Tech, A&M, Cowboys, etc....they still go above and beyond what I would expect to cover the local team.
They also sponsor quite a few things SMU related. During the lean years, they were pretty much the only commercial you heard during the radio broadcasts.
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

I just think the overall coverage is pretty weak. I mean the Houston Chronicle puts a box score type of display at the top of the front page when the Cougars play. It doesn't take a Google web programmer to learn how to do that. Granted there were many more sporting events going on in DFW than Houston yesterday, but still I'd like the Ponies to get a little more help from the DMN given the progress we've made.

Do you actually get the DMN hard copy delivered down there in Houston? If you don't, then how can you make that comment?.....We ARE in the front page in color after every game ...with additional stories about the players, team etc.

Do you actually read a physical newspaper? I didn't know anyone still did that. I'm just going off the website since it's a much better medium of information distribution. Figured they would be somewhat similar, but who knows.

No problem htownponyfan! ...Yes I actually do get it and its much different than the e-version, although if you are a physical subscriber you do have access to the actual electronic e-version which shows exactly what it looks like at delivery. I do still get the darn liberal DMN every day.....Its really better than what some on here think...we get what we deserve for the most part....when we demand attention when we are finally in the National spotlight, then lets see what the local press decides.

When the Ranger blow it tommorrow, joining UT and the Cowgirls in underperforming, they will probably just suspend the sport page altogether unless little ole SMU becomes a headliner and saves the paper.

I think most of us understand the numbers game that the paper must play with the Longhorns and Aggies.
The thing that I find irritating is not recognizing the home team as such. Playing to the readership of the big schools is OK, just quit pretending that UT is located in Dallas and SMU is in Tyler.
I remember one year when I ran the Turkey Trot, the start was being delayed and the announcer asked "Is anyone a UT fan?" Yay!!! "Is anyone a A&M fan?" Yay!!!! "Is anyone a Michigan fan? Is anyone a Notre Dame fan?" I thought seriously, there cannot be more Michigan or Notre Dame alums in Dallas than SMU alums.

Keep winning. JJT actually wrote a piece a few weeks ago.
They only write about what is relevant to DFW. SMU still isn't relevant yet in the general public.

More timely, yes. But for information comprehension and commitment to memory, reading a hardcopy is something like 40-65% more effective.

I also think the 'horn worship leads to provincialism around Dallas. I remember one year when Wake Forest and Rutgers won their conferences (I think, not positive). Mac Engels ridiculous wife was on 103.3 and said something like that it was pathetic that those teams were in a bowl at all. Seriously, you win the ACC and the Big East. Those teams were good teams and they were good stories that a sports journalist should be interested in.

SMU just got outdrawn by 5 Division 1A schools in its own backyard-perhaps it is SMU's own alumni, family and friends that are ignoring SMU. Bottom line you can make excuses, you can [deleted] and complain about the DMN all you want but SMU had 15,000 of its own core fans at a key CUSA West Title matchup on a beautiful nite after its best season in 25 years. This is not a dig at those that faithfully go to games year after year-its a shot at those that really can't be bothered to support their own program.
"With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
