I like the article-it gives a realistic generally positive view of the SMU program to a broad audience
The article is comparing SMU on the scale of a Big Time Football program
You guys want to compare SMU to Big Time Football programs on a sliding scale
And yet you want the same media not to use the sliding scale on the TCU program
If you want a puff-piece go read the SIDs weekly release

When they give us the exposure of a big time program, then that will be the comparison. I don't want a puff piece, but when we get one article a week that exceeds the one paragraph "briefly" description, I don't see the need to belittle the program, and that's what it is when you point out the things she did.

You think it's good exposure to a "broad audience", but I think it gives the broad audience another reason to not support the school. They see what she wrote and think, 'hell, why would I go see them when they are only broadcast locally, or on this new fangled cable channel CBSCS'. It gives the potential fan pause or a built in excuse that we aren't big time.

I'm all for an a honest account, and I'll say it again, I wasn't [deleted] when we sucked and were getting slammed by the DMN. Things appear to have change around the football program, but the coverage is stuck in the Bennett era.

Regardless of this article, or any others by Kate, I think she is bad for this program. The fill-in when she was off covering other teams was much more prolific with his coverage and the amount of ink he got. I'm starting to think the lack of coverage is a Kate issue and not an editorial one.

I like the article. You earn respect by beating good teams not by local puff pieces. We are making significant improvements, but we are not there yet. Goal is top 25.

I generally like Kate's work, but she did manage to overlook Fall Break, the Rangers, four other college games, etc. Plus, she has to know that unlike many programs (read TCU), Orsini doesn't fudge the numbers.

Also, it did not escape my notice that the summer coverage of the admissions fiasco dwarfed the good news of the October admissions changes.

Face it, the Dallas Morning News is an organ of the University of Texas...interpret that as you wish.

Kate has been our beat writer for years. Our attendance has sucked...for years. In the past five years, we can point to one single game with great attendance where we weren't horrifically outnumbered by Sand Aggies: TCU 2010. Is she supposed to say, well, SMU's attendance has sucked for 25 years...but THIS week they had to contend with problems A, B, C, and D, so they're doing great!

Like it or not Kate is right on and bottom line. Much work to do; however, the program is headed in the right direction. Time and several more good recruiting classes will make the difference.
