awful news. our pass coverage is pretty bad already - especially over the middle. I expect Navy to pass a few more times than usual against Thomas and Crawford.

If you want to give Sterling a week off to heal, this run-oriented non-conference game is the time to do it. The "done for season" talk could just be a smokescreen to surprise Houston with next week.

That was my first thought as well, and the best scenario.

This is the one area of the team where we could least afford injuries. Just shows how thin this team really is. We've been lucky to not have major injuries, I knew it was just a matter of time.

Got to hope guys step up. I'm afraid this injury might be worth 2 losses, I hope i'm wrong.

This is scary...Won't matter as much today, but Bennie Thomas is not the answer and it seems like Parks gets burned on huge plays at db and special teams.

This is the injury I was referring to Thursday, when I said we had more adversity to overcome. I didn't think SMU would make it public until kickoff. All of our media were told to keep it quiet. We have a couple of more players nursing injuries, that I HOPE to be ok for today.

well let's not throw Parks completely down the drain-he got burned on a home run as a freshman. Not like that hasn't happened before. At least we have guys like Parks and Acker with some athletic ability. Somebody is just going to have to step up. Navy, UH and UTEP arguably have suffered injuries just as devastating to their programs. Not sure if Buckram has or will be able to play a full game all season. He has seen limited action in only about 2 games this year. Keenum and Buckrum are arguably the No. 1 and No. 2 Offensive players in CUSA. Navy lost its No. 1 RB and has several other major injuries.

What about Acker? Has he received any playing time at corner this year? Obviously I know he has played on special teams, but is he an option at corner this year? I'd at least like to see him in there and see what he's got. I've seen enough of BT III for now.

Time to man up. This is why it takes more than just one or two years to develop a program. Depth with quality is the key. Hopefully the kids will respond to the challenge. If it was going to happen this is the best week for it to happen. I still say we beat Navy and then we move on to the next one. For Sterling's sake, I hope he can fully recover for his future whether it is here or the next level. If it is over, thanks Sterling for what you did for the return of SMU football.

I agree on this game with Navy, as if we ever really didn't need him to play, this one is it but don't believe its a smokescreen...unfortunatly.

Parks got beat on one long play, other than that he had been doing fine. I believe Parks and Acker will be fine corners for SMU as they gain experience on the field. Navy would be a good game for both of them to play.

Both will be studs as they have the speed and the skills but need some bulk addded, which will come. They will be fine and games like this which, hopefully, aren't so pass happy gives these young kids time to get their feet wet in big game time situations and tests their tackling skills, which they still need practice.

If our offense gets it in gear this won't be a dooming as it seems. We can't squeek by with 24 points anymore and win however
