TCU's team doctor has complained to their administration before about Patterson. The game was televised by ESPN and the verbal exchange was shown live. When asked about the incident the Sunday after the game Patterson said, "It's none of your business. As far as I'm concerned [Wesley] was fine 10 minutes after he was hurt."
A source at TCU said that Haraldson had previously complained to school administrators about Patterson and other incidents, but no action was taken. http://www.star-telegram.com/2010/10/20/2564118/report-tcu-coach-berated-doctor.html?storylink=digger-topic

peruna81 -- thanks for the insight. still, it all makes me wonder, what with all the comments others have made about Patterson's personality/antics, if he doesn't wear out his welcome at some point, despite his on-field successes. it seems that one of the shifts in the college (societal?) landscape is the new-found refusal to tolerate boorish behavior escalating to abuse of any kind. I am recalling Mangino, Leavitt, and, of course, Leach. the page has turned on the brutal old-school approach to coaching. further, I am wondering that at some point, someone at a named 'Christian' university might actually want that better reflected in one of their higher profile representatives, no matter how secularized the institution may have become.....and, no matter how many wins. but, just wondering......

This story is entirely believable - hate to say - due to the way he conducts himself on the sidelines.

the doctor at all levels makes the call about the menatal and physical ability of a player to participate. it is not permissable for a coach to override the doctor's decision. coaches do subtly try to intimidate doctors but any ethical physician will make the call based on the best interests of the player. what fatterson did was completely out of bounds. he should be fired.

I think all TCU recruits should take heed and switch to SMU.

Patterson will skate this one. He wins games. As long as he is not taking the AD's parking space at ACS or sticking kids in sheds, he is golden.
He wins games.
TCU is trying to improve their profile/conference affiliation/pecking order in the college football arena.
They are a top 5 team, headed arguably to their best season since their last NC run...
did I mention he wins games?

Just read the entire article, including this gem:
The game was televised by ESPN and the the verbal exchange was shown live. When asked about the incident the Sunday after the game Patterson said, "It's none of your business. As far as I'm concerned [Wesley] was fine 10 minutes after he was hurt."
Oh really, Dr Patterson? Good to know what your assessment was. And of course you have training etc to back that up, right? Since we're playing job trade, can the doc dial up a defense now and then?
Btw, TCU's team doc-or at least the one the article is about-is board certified in...EMERGENCY MEDICINE. And Patterson's going to "f ing fire [his] f ing [deleted]."
Someone should fire Patterson's f ing [deleted].

He's not going to get fired over arguing with the doctor unless he told the kid to get back out there against doctors orders.

i can't remember a story like this coming out so publicly. fatterson won't get fired. the tt higher ups wanted leach out and found an excuse. tcu wants patterson so they will put up with his tirades no matter who he directs them against. the dr should quit in protest and go on the today show.

The only thing that would get him fired would be a dead girl or a live boy.

It just shows how things really work in college football if you win you can get away with anything. If Leach had consistently beaten texas and gotten a couple of Big 12 Championships he would still be there. It's all about the W's
