after so many losing seasons and only in the 3rd in 20+ years...to expect fans to all of a sudden become loyal to the hilt is optimistic at best and, clearly foolish at worst.

And yes, I don't know all these answers and breaking news -- neither do you!
Never said you did. The message that came through in those lazy threads was mockery of fans who were concerned about upcoming games. Whether you thought was a "bit" or not means nothing. But surely you'll feel clever when you cough up the same thread this week... and next week... and the week after that...

No one has bailed. But people are allowed to be frustrated after yesterday's performance. Kinda the whole point of having this board...venting after a game like that.

I wouldn't say fans are ready to quit, or give up-------especially those of us who have loved our Mustangs all of our lives---and trust me, there have were lots more times to quit prior to now! I still put the blame for last night's performance, or lack of, on the coaches. It's their job to get our guys ready and clearly, our game plan was ineffective and they weren't ready for what UH had to give us. I have preached patience all season and last night made it obvious we need it, but seriously, we should have been a contender in the game. I hope someone put's a fire under the coaches rear-ends and they then proceed to put one under our players so that Tulane doesn't have a clue what hit them. That being said.......... KICK 'EM MUSTANGS!!!!

As for the second measure of fan support, I think some of the folks on this board are being overly pessimistic when describing our attendance this season. I don't want to dig in too deeply right here, but in general, I have felt like our attendance has been improved starting with the game against TCU. At the TCU game, I felt like SMU put on a great showing with a much larger percentage of the spectators than I expected. It was truly a great environment and the only game that I expect us to sell-out this season, or even cross the 30,000 threshold for that matter. At the game against Tulsa, I once again felt like we had a better than average turn-out, but unfortunately the students were on Fall Break and their absence was greatly felt. Finally, we have last night. I would be willing to argue that our attendance numbers were impacted by the weather before people even started out for the stadium. The turnout on the Boulevard was very strong, but as Severe Weather Warnings started to get issued and the weather started to turn, people started to pour out of the SMU campus. After the stadium evacuation, I felt that the lack of information and the rampant rumors of a canceled game floating around played a huge role in the wave of fans that left the stadium. I too wish there had been more fans to chear on our team, but what happened yesterday, was far different than just a simple rain shower.
Totally agree here. There was a very strong showing on the blvd and IMO people even sucked it up for the showers that ensued during tailgating while hiding out under tents. Also, a great deal of those people made it out to the game. The hallways were packed after the first rain delay for a good while. One issue was not being offered any real idea about what was going on and when play would resume. The fact was it wasnt just a sun shower and after sitting in the stands in a poncho waiting for the team I can see why most everyone bailed out. I feel like we need to cut the fans a little slack on this one.

Nice comment/post Hilltop --
such a strange day all around --- would have been nice to have updates. I don't know if there are speakers in the concourse. I've never been to a football game that got called at the college level before. Our stadium is all metal so that doesn't help.
Completely frustrating for us diehard's but... Time to move on. If we beat Tulane and UTEP, I would hope our turnout will be ok. Navy was more frustrating b/c we gave it away and was very winnable. Yesterday was a disaster on all fronts.

we've got the same record we did last year at this point in the season. i'd be satisfied with another 7-5 regular season & a bowl win. baby steps people. look how long it's taken our friends to the west.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
