Re: JJ - Bait and Switch?Mrydel is right. When your destiny is out of your hands you realistically reset you goals and take care of your own business. If good fortune comes your way then you can re-evaluate your original goal. Problem with this team is a glaring lack of depth on defense and next year's frosh will not bring immediate help. The defense depth issue comes to fruition in 2012 when the 2011 frosh have some strength, size and experience. Biggest problem this year is that the offense has only clicked for short spurts in three games. For some reason they have been out of sync in all games and we are lucky to have won as many games as we have won. If the offense had any consistency and would sustain some drives, even 6-10 play drives, our defense would have a chance to rest and the lack of depth could not be exploited so much. The offense has had a huge percentage of three and outs in every game. If there is any disappointment it is the offense failing to make the progress everyone expected as those tools are reasonably in-place.
Re: JJ - Bait and Switch? Most are missing the point.
Resetting goals is fine. I have a problem though with pretending the goal all season up until the Houston loss never existed. That is all I am pointing out. Don't act like your first goal never existed, man up, say you may fall short, and set new goals. I am fine with that, coming up short and going to a second consecutive bowl with a young team with no depth is fine, just don't insult us and say six wins and a bowl was the goal the whole time. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: JJ - Bait and Switch? We have not fell short at this point. I think you have missed our point. We can still win CUSA, it just that our destiny at this point is not in our hands. If Houston loses I am sure the goal will then go back to winning CUSA because our destiny will be back in our hands. Until then our goal should be the reach a bowl and keep our bowl streak alive.

Re: JJ - Bait and Switch?Once again fine, I have no problem with that.
What I have a problem with is JJ saying "Our Goal ALL ALONG was get to six wins and go to a bowl", that was not the goal all along. I still think we have a great shot to win the conference, we have a great shot to go to a bowl, which would be great for this team. All I am saying, I am not happy that JJ would act like the goal to win the conference never existed. When you say our goal all along was get six wins and get a bowl after stating numerous times up until the Houston loss that our goal was to win the conference, is condesending, makes it look like he is lowering the bar so no one can be held accountable for failing. He should have said, "We wanted to win conference, that is still our goal, we may fall short, but we will fight like hell to at least get to a bowl, would be a great accomplishment considering our thin depth and all our injuries" DO NOT say, "Our goal all along was to win six games and go to a bowl"...simply not true and an insult. No one is faulting them for falling short, but don't bait and switch the goal just so you can say you accomplished what you wanted. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
Re: JJ - Bait and Switch?Coach Jones never said that 6 wins was the goal ALL ALONG nor did he count out winning CUSA. This is his quote from the DMN:
"The kids responded the way winners respond," Jones said. "We're now one game away from a bowl, which was our goal. If we can maintain and keep winning conference games, you never know, you might win the conference." http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent ... 83f7c.html I'm fine with that. Re: JJ - Bait and Switch?Im fine with that too,
But why state, matter of factually, that the goal was to get to a bowl, that sentence had not been uttered all year, it was the "goal was to win the conference". Look June has been great, best thing that has happened to SMU, but he made a mistake here, and it was an attempt to CYA. Your lookup on the one quote that gives a bit of a hint, the one after Houston was even much more deceiving. Guess I am done, everyone thinks June is God, but it has a bit of the "Animal Farm" ring to it. "Our Goal was to get six wins and go to a bowl" but Snowball questioned, "Lord June, was not our Goal to win conference?" Lord June answered "No you must be mistaken" Snowball, hushed down by the crowd "Yes, I must be mistaken...." Re: JJ - Bait and Switch?I don't think anyone thinks June is God but I don't think he should be thrown under the bus either for something like this.

Re: JJ - Bait and Switch?Geez Shadowman....let it ride. Just win out and if AND when UH loses as their schedule is really not in their favor, THEN we can win the CUSA West.......until then, it is out of our hands.
Re: JJ - Bait and Switch?Heh,
This is a message board, and I have always seen June as a stand-guy, something about the bait and switch, lowering our goals, when the conference title is still in reach, kinda rubbed me the wrong way. Sorry I even brought it up, thought it was OK to discuss June wimping out on the season long goal when it is still ver much in play. Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!
