He has taken this on his shoulders and except for the larger football community, he has succeeded. Give him the two more years of recruiting build up and we will be a regular member of the top 25. Just wrong to judge the overall coaching success coming off a flat game in El Paso.
As to personal style, I think he is a nice break from the narrow bandwidth most college coaches occupy.

How can anyone on the outside know if he is held accountable and to what degree. My guess for any head coach in this day and time is that a certain number of wins are needed and if the program is not making progress then a change will be made. Having said that, a program like SMU needs to give a coach like June ample leeway because of the poor SMU track record and the poor support which has dwindled over the years. The unexpected year 2 results may have raised expectations too high for a team that is still trying to build depth through recruiting and having a pretty tough time building a trust with Texas High School Coaches while not taking the juco route and losing some players to injury and academic issues. Accountability would be wins along with graduating players and recruiting guys who can handle the rigors of D1 football and the academic side,(not just keeping guys eligible) but graduating! Lastly, the players staying out of trouble. Us fans need to do our part by spreading the good word and filling the seats at Ford. The sooner everyone buys into it the sooner we will be in bcs bowls.

Well said; you are right on particularly stating that our expectations might be too high for this stage in rebuilding. The mere fact that we have expectations speaks volumes

To quote the great Orator and the finest mind of our time: "Ya got to get that car out of the ditch and back on the road and pointed in the right direction. Those of you just sitting on the sideline sipping on your slurpees can just get in the back of the car."

You forgot to mention he also had to demote Peruna in order to accomplish all of this.

you know, the other day I was thinking. We're lucky Cavan didnt do the same thing, or we'd have had a bulldog on the sideline. Maybe two.

OK, I'm going to try is again. GSP, I don't know why you don't like him personally. Have you ever talked with him? I have and I find him very personable and interesting. Yes, he is a little dry. If you are going to pay the big $ you need to get out of the way and let him do his job. We could have Orsini pull a Jerry Jones and all that would do is screw up a 2 car funeral. Not trying to get you riled up but you said you wanted honest input.

Not currently.

Certainly not on Saturday, right? And it is an interesting point that while we're #18 in total net yards, we are #54 in points.

The answer to all of the confusion is June Jones has not found a qualified R&S quarterback period. The only pass that Padron has is the long ball that works with a speedy receiver until the defense figures out that all you have to do to stop the long ball a play deeper and stay between the receiver and the goal line then the long ball is gone and so are the points. As far as the defense we started with a better defense than June has ever had and they always put up 35 to 50. June will fix this but there are limitations to how he can having found fools gold last year.

davidpaul123 wrote:Why do you think he wants to take jobs at places like Hawaii or SMU and was considering the Duke job. He likes the ability to do things his way and build without any real pressure.

This plays into whether he gets enough credit/blame on what goes on in the game. He has a system and he is unwilling to compromise it because he knows it works. The fact that the teams he takes over have been so downtrodden means he has a big buffer zone and any thing he does usually gets rubber stamped as the wins come.

This is our situation with June in a nutshell. At a place like this he's pretty much untouchable because he's the best of all conceivable options.

Midland, I've talked to him twice -- at one of the signing day events and also at one of the spring football BBQs. I came away feeling like I just wasted my time.

Again, my personal feelings toward June are inconsequential in this whole deal about his tenure him.

Big picture wise I want him to succeed and continue to build our program to greater heights. Obviously, 5 and 8 wins between the last two seasons are a heck of a lot better than the dust bowls of 2007 and 2008.

I just wish he wouldn't do it with some tricked up tinker toy offense.
