Idea: Your small way to help athleticsModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower Re: Idea: Your small way to help athleticsI'd appreciate a Mustangs Club metal car emblem and/or Mustangs Club license plate covers as other options. I hate putting stickers on multi-thousand dollar things and these might help encourage exposure. Maybe a "red" metal mustang emblem with a "diamond M" to distinguish it from the chrome mustang emblems you can buy at the bookstore.
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athleticsWord or mouth will be important in this. Call it a grass roots campaign. One of things your increased donation could do is provide more resources for the student-athletes in terms of tutoring and other things like that.
Look at it this way: We have about 2600 members. Conservatively, at $100 per that's $260,000. Doesn't sound like much but if you get to 4500 at $100 you get to $450,000. That increases the flexibility. Now, if we get everybody to increase to $150, that makes it $675,000. Flexibility continues. To be sure, it's ridiculous math. Still....What are we willing to do?
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athleticsHere's the giving website, in case your wallet has some money burning a hole in it:
http://smu.edu/giving/form_giving_more_options.asp Lots and lots of options - here's the Athletics list, for instance: ![]() Or other interests - this is just a part of the Student Affairs list, which is where you former Mustang Band members would donate to a desperately needed new Band Hall: ![]() Amongst hundreds of other options. Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athleticsBump. As frustrating as the bowl result was, just keep in mind of the big picture of the program continuing to grow. Just consider increasing your donation by a nominal amount. Word-of-mouth builds.
Heck, when I went to the Mustang Club tent for breakfast, I dropped a little something for two reasons. First, I believe in the cause -- in spite of feelings toward Jones (I do want want us to succeed). Second, I wanted to continue to take advantage of the tax write-off. It will take time, but it can happen.
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athleticsBump. What can you do to help?
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athleticsOkay, folks. See those donation options I listed above? It's not just for show - that's where my donation funds go. How about you?
Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athleticsBump. What are you prepared to do to help?
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athletics
I agree.
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athleticsBump. Carefully consider what you can do. Word of Mouth can be effective in this process.
SMU has won 15 games in the last two years (more than the last 4 or 5 years combined?) SMU has played for a conference championship. SMU has played in consecutive bowl games for the first time since 1983-84.
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athletics
And wouldn't it be cool if we could extend that bowl streak to three years in a row next season! Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athleticsGreat comments Mitch! Keep the fire going!
We need a fund of "Friends of the SMU Football Indoor Practice Facility" I will call tomorrow to see if SMU will set up a fund so named. If they will, I am going to make a donation to this fund.
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athleticsI talked to SMU today about a new fund for the IPF. It is premature to start a fund since none of the details of the IPF have been worked.
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athleticsPlease clarify. Are you saying that there is no 'real' activity regarding the IPF and it's financing?
GO PONIES!!!
Re: Idea: Your small way to help athletics
So by donating through this link you will join the mustang club? I know this sounds stupid but I've never fully understood what the Mustang club does, benefits (if any) from joining and how to join. ...I've looked at their website but it's still a little fuzzy to me and I can't seem to find the "join us" link. "Boy, I really miss Craig James' commentary on Thursday night football"
