Play fired up? Yes. Act undignified and without true sportsmanship when not playing? No.
Don't worry. Be Happy. Or not.

I have never understood the need to showboat when the rules forbid it. Just celebrate with your teammates. Yes if the rules were different then go to town. But they aren't so don't. Wasn't it Bear Bryant who said when you get in the End Zone act like you've been there before. I mean showboating has decided many games over the years. Last year it seemed like it was a huge factor in an SEC game every week.

Outstanding post, Ponyte. There are a lot of significant points to make about this year and the Mustangs and you made most of them. A look at the comments made by the coach at UCF today after their victory over Georgia tells one a lot about the situation at SMU. Probably, the academic and admission issues at SMU are the most important as regards our long term prospects. I am still not a huge fan of the JJ coached offense and would hope that he evolves a little in the running game. Probably won't happen but I can always hope. Otherwise the future looks somewhat bright.

As for showboating, I could write a book about this issue. When I played, in the Dark Ages, a player would no more think about calling attention to himself after a good play than he would cussing out a coach. When one scored we always went over and handed the ball to the official and saved our energy for the next play. Of course in college we had to play both ways so we needed a lot of energy. It is a cultural issue, to be PC, and TV exacerbates the problem. Frankly, because of the way TV presents the game today, I would have only passing interest in football if it weren't for the Mustangs. When I see a game on TV, I feel like an idiot for sitting through all the extraneous junk which goes along with the TV presentation and watching a game in person there is no continuity because of the pauses for commercials or interviews with someone that the live audience doesn't know about. Sometimes I watch an old game on the BYU channel and it amazing how much fun it is to see a game in the eighties with no commercials and little if any celebrating, (except for the 1980 SMU-BYU game.)

AGREED. I have never understood the need to jump up and down and make a complete [deleted] of oneselves after stoping someone for a one yard gain, on first down. It is all about, "me". How much attention can an individual player draw towards himself. It is truely pitiful.
