Re: UT and independanceThat is a riot, Undercover Frog!!! LOL!!! Funny post!!!
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: UT and independance
If that is true, why doesn't SMU recruit against the horns? Jones isn't even trying to go after the top recruits in the state? He's offered more kids from California than Texas. If SMU has asperations about challenging Texas, then you would think they would offer the best kids in the state? Why drive across town for groceries when you live next door to the best market?
Re: UT and independanceAs for recruiting I think Coach Jones is interested in the best recruits he can get no matter where they are...Texas, Cal., etc. I think Coach Jones has proven that he knows how to recruit.
Re: UT and independanceUntil SMU gets in a bcs-BS conference, we can't compete against TU for recruits. Simple as that.
On the other hand, if we were a part of the cartel, all bets are off & Katie bar the door!!! Equal footing with the shorthorns! BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

Re: UT and independanceFrog fans forget that many older UT alums considered us their main rival...We stole a lot of games from those guys back in the day...
Re: UT and independance
Absolutely you did---by cheating your butts off--look what that got you.
Re: UT and independanceAs I recall you guys were guilty as well...to bad you couldn't buy more than 3 wins a season...
Re: UT and independance
This is a joke right? Surely you aren't that myopic. No, wait ... I just checked the dictionary definition of delusional and it said "a fixed false belief that is resistant to reason or confrontation with actual fact, see also SoCal Pony." How else would you continue to hold such unsupportable beliefs after 30 years with all evidence to the contrary. Putting SMU into a BCS conference would do nothing more for SMU than being in the Big 12 has for Baylor. Baylor doesn't compete with UT for football recruits despite having been in the Big 12 since it formed. It has gotten more money, but that hasn't brought success. TCU is more competitive recruiting being outside the BCS AQ conferences because it has committed to being a top flight program and has a coach and staff that do things the right way and didn't run for the first "better" job that came along. That is why TCU was invited into the Big East. By the looks of the 2011 TCU class and the start of the 2012 class, even going to the Big East is going to make them more competitive.
Re: UT and independanceWho the [deleted] invited you to this board...?
You guys have problems...
UT and independance
That completely undermines the power of being in a major metropolitan area. Why do A&M, UT, OU, and half of a dozen major universities want to come here (Dallas) to play every year? You are in a hotbed for recruiting and media attention. Waco draws nothing. This would tie together the benefit of a BCS conference and a top 5 media market and would clearly benefit SMU. Re: UT and independance
I'm not underestimating the effect of being in a large media market, there just isn't that great an effect. The fact that SMU is in a major metropolitan area/large media market would make it a more attractive addition to a conference all other things being equal, but all other things aren't equal. Has being in Dallas turned SMU's football program into a winner in the last 10 years? NO It isn't lke UT/OU/ etc are all lining up to play on campus against SMU. Being in a top media market isn't the key to winning in college football. Look at the schools that populate the top 25 in college football on a regular basis and you won't find that many that are in top 25 media markets. Don't believe it ... Not one SEC school is in a top 25 media market. Not one Big 12 team is located in a top 25 media market (unless you include Colorado in the Denver market and they haven't exactly been a top 25 regular). The highest ranked team the last 3 years that is in a top 25 media market... wait for it ........ TCU. In the time since the 1992 season when the Bowl Coalition began there have only been 2 teams that won the national championship in football that were located within top 25 media markets. USC and Miami. Being in Dallas is better than being in Waco, or for that matter in any place in Alabama or Oklahoma but that just doesn't translate into success on the football field.
UT and independanceUSC? UCLA? That's the number 2 market. Are you [deleted]?
You want me to go through the 25 media markets? I'll do the research and send it because you're clearly an idiot if you missed those two. "This is . . . dedication to distraction by fans. Is that what I'm going to go with Jay?"

Re: UT and independance
I've already done the research and apparently you can't read, because I listed USC. I'm not sure what your point is about UCLA because they have not won a national championship in football in the BCS era and don't regularly end in the top 25 (once since 2002). 1 New York 2 Los Angeles 3 Chicago 4 Philadelphia 5 Boston 6 San Francisco-Oakland-San Jose 7 Dallas-Ft. Worth 8 Washington, DC 9 Atlanta 10 Houston 11 Detroit 12 Tampa-St. Petersburg 13 Seattle-Tacoma 14 Phoenix 15 Minneapolis-St. Paul 16 Cleveland-Akron 17 Miami-Ft. Lauderdale 18 Denver 19 Sacramento-Stockton-Modesto 20 Orlando-Daytona Beach 21 St. Louis 22 Pittsburgh 23 Portland, Oregon 24 Baltimore 25 Indianapolis
Re: UT and independance
There is no power in being in a major media if: A) Your own university doens't give a damn about you, as ours hasn't and still doesn't based on attendance (I think us winning is still a novelty to our students). B) There are a dozen bigger stories going on during the season that people care about. (Please NFL strike, please!) We are still backpage news in a major paper. C) Members of another conference own a city like the Big XII owns Dallas. Its the very fact that UT, OU, and now A&M and even Arkansas are playing here yearly that makes it a non-factor. Could it help us? Yes, but we have to help ourselves first.
Re: UT and independance
Yes, that happened. Don't understand the sarcasm there.
