Re: Just Wow!Its not a complex issue at all. Its either a business entitling athletes to a salary or compensation or its a scholarship entitling athletes to an education plus tuition, room, board, and living expenses(which I already admit may deserve some additional consideration to make sure they are getting sufficient amounts to cover living expenses). Universities have determined that all they are willing to do is provide an education because that is the Model for how they operate in ALL other areas of study-that is their right. Athletes can accept that offer/opportunity or pursue other avenues to earn a living off their athletic abilities. Most professional sports have avenues that can be pursued to become a professional either out of high school or shortly thereafter. Even in college football an athlete can insure his future pro monetary value. If there is any blame-blame the NFL for failing to set up a minor league if you want-why should college college football be blamed for the lack of access to a possible professional career-college football was invented many decades before and has also had a strictly educational purpose. The NFL doesn't pay colleges money to run their teams-why should colleges be burdened to fund the dreams of athletes to earn a living in a separate, unaffiliated business. Isn't the NFL using college football to decrease costs of implementing a minor league system. In fact, universities are governed by mandatory Section 501(c)(3) non-profit requirements and its doubtful that they could truly pay student/athletes a salary and retain that status under the Internal Revenue Code
