Observations from the scrimmage

So the starting OL...Beachum, LeRiebus, Tennison, Turner and Brooks?

Tennison and McJunkin still seem to be fighting it out for the starting center spot. No bad snaps yesterday.

Collins played at RT, but I think JT is hurt? Collins looked good, though.

I disagree, I saw at least two where the QB had to hop up to get the ball. I didn't see who the center was though. Blows my mind that we can't get that exchange correct.

Mc Junkin was running with a small group of other players after the scrimmage, down by the south end zone. Did not notice any other OL in the mix. What was that about?

A pay site says a DT Gareth Riley-Ayers had "overpowered OL Ashton Duhe and had a Knockdown." This kid shows some talent in his You Tube 2009 High School video, but was only 5'11" then. I assume that this guy is a walk on ?

Ayers was all over the place yesterday and was feisty with several altercations with OL. He is listed at 5'11 and 250...no way he is only 250...he is big and strong....

I'm not sure 250 is that far off. He's not that big a guy.

But he is, if nothing else, relentless. Watching spring practice every day, there were countless times when he'd get run over by one of the starting linemen and bounce up to chase the ball carrier again and again. There was one play when two starters (Brooks and Turner, I think, but I can't swear to it) both blocked him and absolutely planted him. He bounced up and then buried him again ... and again, he bounced up. He didn't make the tackle, but it's pretty clear he doesn't plan to quit on a play.

Padron seemed non-chalant and consistently over-threw his receivers in the early drills. JJ looked like he was a lot more accurate and was making a bigger effort during his reps. It's one practice but not very encouraging on open-practice day.

I saw the same thing and calmed down after remembering that I read somewhere on here that there was going to be a change at center.

Several times during the scrimmage. The QB didn't have to jump to get them, but he did have to reach up pretty high to snag them.

Agreed, Padron was missing everyone and didn't appear to be focused, at least from my viewpoint.

I have been to many spring scrimmages over the years...smu,tcu,agies,ut,Baylor and I have yet to see one that has been impressive. It is just a different pace and it is hard to tell sometimes without the "bullets flying". Some running backs and receivers look like All-americans in 7 on 7 but when tackling is allowed the choppy steps and alligator arms appear. Sometimes the qb looks bad but is it because a young receiver ran the wrong route? As a fan we will not know and good coaches don't publicly criticize a player for on the field things. The defense has seen the offense so often that they know all the plays. I think Saturday was the 5th day of practice that week so I am sure the guys had their minds on a lot of different things....finals, time off. I am impressed with our offensive and defensive lines from both the "eye test" to the depth compared to past years. High snaps from center are way down the list of priorities and don't seem any worse than most teams i watch.

He may have been working on something and not focusing on accuracy.
