Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?JJ would never do such a thing..
Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?Never mind that, even if he could magically learn the offense via ESP, he might be third on the depth chart anyway.
Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?
Might be third? I didn't know our backup QB could start in the ACC!
Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?I'm sure he's a fine quarterback, but does a sub six foot Russell Wilson possess the requisite skills for the the Run and Shoot even if he had the knowledge?
Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?The NC state QB is talented but why in the world would you want to bring in a guy who is not 100% dedicated to football and the TEAM concept instead of just what is best for HIM! Ole Miss getting the suspended great Oregon QB after numerous run-ins last year didn't work out too well did it? Ole Miss floundered and lo and behold Oregon had it's greatest season with an unproven QB and played in the National Championship Game. Coaches and fans sometimes get blinded by individual talent but should not forget what a TEAM sport football is and how important team chemistry is to winning. Kyle will be fine if his coaches are as good as they are reported to be. Of course their first QB recruit to SMU had to transfer to another school to develop and win a national championship so this is an important year for them and their record for developing qb's.
Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?I get the feeling things are going to end badly for this guy, just as I thought it did for Kyle Parker, who also signed with the Rockies organization but returned to Clemson for another year at QB...a year that turned out poorly for the kid and had him sitting on the bench late in the game against their arch rival South Carolina after he threw a couple of pics.
Time to concentrate on baseball. He does not have NFL skills, although maybe he knows he doesn't have major league skills, either, and will carefully select that graduate degree?
Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?
Wilson's got a better chance of getting into the NFL than he does the MLB.
Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?This thread may be a few days old, but I wanted to mention a few things. I'm not sure why anyone believes Russell wouldn't bring a team-first attitude to whatever ball club he ends up joining. Wilson is the ultimate team player. "Happy Feet" doesn't begin to explain his playing style and if you had ever seen him play, you would agree. He cycles through his progressions before even thinking about tucking the ball...but even when he does, he produces Top Ten worthy excitement. His numbers are impressive in an offense with much less talented receivers than we have on the Hilltop. Also, he is not the one that wanted to leave NC State. Their terrible coach essentially kicked him out because he believes Mike Glennon (brother of former VT QB, Sean) is the future of his program (and he doesn't like that he plays baseball). He's an extremely well-focused family kinda guy who would bring very positive exposure to our program...not to mention he has already successfully competed on a much higher level (let's face it). Anyway, thought some of these things should be brought up.
Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?I doubt that we have any graduate programs not offered at NC State. If we had a medical school or a masters in animal husbandry, perhaps, we'd be better off. Think A&M, Tech, UT.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?Saw him play a bunch of games last year (when I wasn't watching SMU). He is an exciting player, but will not suplant Kyle or JJ. He is more pure athlete than polished passer. A lot of this comes from the type of offense he was running last year. It depended mostly on his ability to keep defenses honest with his feet and tie up the safeties. June's offense relies on more polished guys. If we had him for multiple years I would be saying to sign this guy up in a big way.
Interesting question though: Would June alter his offense to take advantage of a superior athlete quarterback if one fell into his lap? Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?
The ACC has a rule that if you transfer from one ACC School to another, then you need to sit two years instead of the NCAA's one year. Some rise by sin, and some by virtue fall
Re: Are we interested in bringing in a one year QB?
Wilson is exempt from that rule since he graduated, though
