Considering what he spent on his office (while preaching poverty and asking us for more money), it had better be nice.
They deserve quality. THEIR AT SMU

U of I, my worst fears growing up (in Chicago) was my dad threatening us that if our grades weren't up to par in high school he would send us there. In those days they were forced to admit any high school student with a "B" average, then flunked out half the class in the first semester.
Unfortunately, U of I not only sits in a cold windy flatland, but Obama and his buddies have bankrupted the state, worse than California--no more money for the school's athletic projects or competitive salaries.

As a Chicagoan, don't underestimate U. of Illinois. Great conference, tough academics (if you aren't Top 5-10% of your HS class, you won't get in Champaign.) Very competitive in BB.

Absolutely. Desparate applicants apply to Agricultural School and transfer out after a year. With the cost of educating climbing rapidly, in-state U. of I tuition is highly desired, including those on the North Shore.

Is a poor recent history in football an argument that can be applied as a reason why Steve-O wouldn't take a job? I hate to mention this, but we didn't win a lot of games over the past couple of decades before Eric Dickerson handed Coach Jones to him. Maybe he'd see the Brinks truck that comes with an Illinois offer and think a prominent UI alum will hand him a savior coach there, too, thinking if "he" did it at SMU, "he" could do it up there, too. Personally, I still think it all would come down to the size of a contract offer. That said, we have no idea that anyone at Illinois wants to consider Steve-O — just that some hack at that newspaper thinks he might emerge as a candidate. There's a long way between those two dots.
"It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses." ... "Hit it."

Politics? Companies are relocating to Wisconsin, the state is broke, the Governor was caught selling a certain US Senate seat, and the party in power that handled and passed the excessive spending bills while the President was a state senator is just fact.
