Tressel resigns from Ohio State - TCU Patterson next?

The desireability of the Ohio St job depends on the details on just how 50 players and family bought cars from the same dealership from a big Ohio St booster. We could be looking at only the tip of the Iceberg. Ohio St has already been investigating. If the paper trail ain't clean then Ohio St may have fired Treasel to save the program.

My thoughts on each:
Patterson- would be a good fit and I'd love to see his defenses with Big ten talent and weather. I don't think he will take it though, TCU doen't have any possible sanctions upcoming and by moving to the BE will get to play for national championships pretty soon.

Neither do I, because it won't be offered to him. OSU has said it won't search for a coach until after the 2011 season (although of course it will be doing homework on candidates all year long), and when a new coach is hired to a long-term contract, I would be they go for more of a name/splash coach.

Yeah, he could compete for a national championship, but considering the lovefest the national media inexplicably engages in with the Big 10, he always would have a better chance at Ohio State, where a one-loss season often will have a team ranked above an undefeated Big East team.

The Dispatch has confirmed that Ohio State and the NCAA have launched an entirely new investigation centered around quarterback Terrelle Pryor.

Calling the investigation "significant", the paper said it was focused on cars and extra benefits Pryor may have received during his time in Columbus.

It doesn't take a genius to draw the line between George Dohrmann's upcoming SI piece -- thought to be published around 8pm ET tonight -- and the Tressel resignation to this latest bit of Memorial Day fun. In all likelihood, Dohrmann's report shed new light on the entire situation, leading to where we now find ourselves.

And while the latest Dispatch report was short on specifics, Brutus has been right about this every step of the way. Additionally, a second, well-placed source has confirmed the news of Pryor's playing days being over and said "there could be much more."

When the rumors started swirling around Ohio State, many thought Pryor would simply leave, go through a supplemental NFL draft and wipe his hands of any wrongdoing in Columbus.

Thanks to the lockout, the NFL isn't doing any business, and even if the dispute got resolved tomorrow, it's highly unlikely the league would even hold a supplemental draft this year. Wonder what he'll do for a year if he actually leaves OSU...

So, does Tressel cooperate now that he is gone or does he continue the Sgt. Schultz routine? We know the Death Penalty isn't in play here and the chances of a significant penalty is pretty remote. Tressel will probably get hired elsewhere so keeping his mouth shut is the route I expect him to go.

- Pryor will never play for OSU again?
- Since penalties will follow Tressel, no Top 25 BCS school will hire him?
- OSU will see more penalties, including loss of some scholarships and no bowl games, perhaps for two years?

The Ohio State job comes with a hole lot of bull [deleted]. If I'm Patterson, I wouldn't want that job, compared to the job he has. OSU is out of control and whoever takes over there will have to deal with that culture, and the money & corruption that it attracts. Patterson may someday leave FW, but it would be for a dream job. I would say that the folk in FW will start sweating when Oklahoma or Nebraska need a coach.
