Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion threadI think that's EXACTLY what he meant because the Big East is always talking about adding the Dallas market by expanding with TCU.

Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion threadThere is no scenario of any conference where Rice is involved. None.
Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion threadYeah, but TCU has had Dallas envy for years and is very proud about being in Ft. Worth. And judging by their reactions, they think he's stepped in it. Now if they move the BE tournament to AA Center from MSG that would be making a play for the Dallas Market. If they grow to 12 teams, then I do think they would probably look at SMU and UH. SMU for football tradition. UH for hoops tradition. Big E, Phi Slamma Jamma, etc.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion thread
I was with you until you brought up the AAC, ![]() I like your optimism, but a couple things stand in the way...1)leaving the largest media market in the world for Dallas 2) making the teams that create profit for the BE travel to a building w/ no tradition in a place that does not have anywhere close to the BBall talent that NYC and Chicago produce. And they have all the hoops tradition they could ever want, or need...this is about $$$, it's the only for-profit conf. don't forget that "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion threadI'm just saying the Big East Commissioner has on several ocassions mentioned adding the Dallas market with respect to TCU. It sounds more impressine than the Ft Worth market to Easterns who think we are all Cowboys riding horses and shooting indians all day from the Fort in Worth

Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion threadit certainly does and it would be a great move in my opinion, but like usual we're putting the cart before the horse w/ respect to where the center of the BE universe lays
Basketball, New York City, and piles of money "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion threadI'm not putting the cart before the horse because I don't think SMU is in play for the Big East. I would think Houston would be a stronger candidate and the only one that would be on a short list in Texas

Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion thread
no, no, no...what im getting at is the reasons for why the BE is interested in us and what that would lead to...we're a much more interesting candidate that Houston. "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion threadWhere does it say the Big East is interested in SMU?

Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion thread
I do not think he was confused either. He is using the same logic as the new owner of the California / Anaheim Angels by calling them the 'Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim'. Dallas > Ft Worth LA > Anaheim NY > NJ
Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion threadReasonable people can certainly come to a different conclusion, I happen to believe he wasn't confused or didn't use the term to mean the market. I'm also not delusional and expecting an invitation Monday morning, however.
Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion threadAnother example of BE Commission co-opting Dallas market to TCU
I realize that some people will question geography," Big East commissioner John Marinatto said. "Paul Tagliabue, the former commissioner of the NFL and one of our consultants, put it best when he said at a recent meeting, 'The Dallas Cowboys play in the NFC East. TCU and their fans will be right at home in the Big East.' I couldn't agree more." http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/columns/s ... id=5863663 "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris

Re: Hey, it's another Big East expansion threada very similiar version of the cited quote shows he was referring to TCU "at that time" when he mentioned a school in Dallas, Texas
“From an administrator's standpoint our attitude has always been we’ll find a way to make it work,†he said. “From a practical standpoint, when you look at the TCU addition, and the way some people reacted to that, I remember saying at the time to so many people if a conference that is called the Big Ten can have 12 schools and a conference that is called the Big 12 can have 10 schools, why can’t the Big East have a school in Dallas, Texas? There is nothing wrong with that.†http://www.msnsportsnet.com/blogs.cfm?b ... e=08/02/11 "With a quarter of a tank of gas, we can get everything we need right here in DFW." -SMU Head Coach Chad Morris
