Did those comments just give BYU a pass on the b12-2 as well? Maybe the b12-2 can't be as picky about replacements as they would like to be.

BYU is not going Big 12 IMO. I think they relish the opportunity to be an independent.

There is no way that ND is going to the Big 12. The Big Tens has tried to get ND for years and as long as they have the NBC contract, they are going to stay independent.

I also question the article that says BYU's actions are tied to ND...that makes no sense. Aside from the point that most teams in D1 wouldn't mind have some connection to ND, BYU has very little in common with ND aside from being a religious institution.

Also, I don't see how the Big 12 is attractive to Pitt or West Virgina. Money is the great equalizer and I am not sure which conference membership would be more lucrative, but both Pitt and WVU have a much greater chance of competing for a BCS game in the Big East than the Big12 and the operational cost (ie travel) in the Big East would be a lot lower for Pitt and WVU. Unless the Big 12 finds another BCS team that feels jilted like TAMU, it seems much more likely that the Big 12 will have to look to non-BCS schools.

So- most likely no for ND, BYU, and Pitt. A doubtful maybe on Ark. The list grows shorter.

Do you really think the whorens would want cougar high? I would think they would accept SMU first.

A competitive game on Sunday as well as a win in Houston really strengthens our case to the casual fan.

UT wants no academic affiliation with UH. This is where we have a distinct advantage.

And our first bullet-point in the DMN article announcing our interest.......

School officials contend SMU should appeal to a BCS conference because:

The university has made leaps in academic rankings and research status. School officials believe the athletic program will benefit from this progress.

I don't see BYU coming to the Big XII. They are independent because with the Morman following they know they can get games because they can put people in seats.

Plus, BYU sees their team as a means to spread the Morman brand. I think they want to move around the country so their co-religionists can watch the team play and create visability for the church.

Don't see they needing to come to any conference.

Did BYU get BCS access and I missed it? Of course they have a good reason to join the Big 12. AQ status and revenue sharing. Plus they get to keep their network.

I think the point is that if BYU had a strong desire to be in a BCS conference, with their following, program history and recent successes, they likely would have been more involved in the discussion much earlier, rather than being the leftovers taken by the Big 12.

At this point you can safely cross ND, Pitt (dunno even why they were in the convo) and Arky off the list.
Realistically, the remaining choices are
-BYU
-SMU
-Houston
