Re: How does Boise State do it?
taking recruiting services at their word as truth is the 1st and biggest mistake you can make, second is that BSU has arguably the lowest academic standards of any D1 school and they have no problem taking kids w/ rap sheets...that won't happen here. if you go back through their recruits you will find it littered w/ guys who got dropped by all the biggest PAC 10 powerhouses who couldn't justify taking a risk on a kid w/ past drug problems or thew worst grades this used to get reported on all the time because ESPN and others were too stupid to realize how BSU stumbled on all this talent and success, and then they just stumbled into it...they take the great athletics that have too much "baggage" and turn them against the gun-shy programs who could take a risk on them "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
Re: How does Boise State do it?RB11, you might be right. I just have not heard of any kid having legal problems going to BSU. They always present themselves as having good high character hard working kids.

Re: How does Boise State do it?
it flies under the radar cuz scout isn't going to say, "he has 5 star talent but he also got convicted 3 times for possession" "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
Re: How does Boise State do it?
I don't necessarily disagree 100%, but if you take a team loaded with 4 and 5 stars on the 2 deep and line it up against one with mostly two and some three stars on the 2 deep, most of the time seems like the former would be favored

Good point RGV. See SMU vs aTm or Tulsa vs Oklahoma. Just sayin'. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: How does Boise State do it?on average i agree but consider this...do you know why nick foles was a 3 star coming out of HS and ryan mallet was a 5?
it had nothing to do with talent or skill. they are less than an inch apart in height and have no difference in throwing power with foles being more accurate then and now. (not to mention that he took his team to the st championship against southlake with an almost completely torn labrum in his throwing shoulder) nick was a high basketball recruit until his soph yr of HS being looked at by kentucky and several other schools, he did not attend any summer nike sponsored qb camps until after his soph yr and as a result was never graded highly by any recruiting service. when he switched to football only before his jr yr and started going to off season campus anyone who was there can tell you that there was no significant difference between foles and mallet. point being, recruiting services penalize kids for not being a 1 sport athlete unless they have supreme talent, instead of objectively grading their current talent. Re: How does Boise State do it?Foles also wanted to transfer here after he did not make it at Michigan State but we did not want him. Foles also got into a good system that fit his skills better that Michigan State did. At any rate we just got the most highly regarded QB in the June Jones era today so I am excited. Go Stangs.

Re: How does Boise State do it?
three things about that need to be clarified 1. he transferred because cousins came back to MSU where he was from after realizing bradford was gonna take all his playing time at OU, the MSU alumni were so mad when he didnt go there to begin with that nick knew he would never see the field no matter how cousin's played 2. june jones said no because he was "too big", easily the worst decision of his career here...and a totally confusing reason at that 3. the system had nothing to do with it, when smu said no the next logical thing was to look to AZ where his family vacations a lot and has loved to spend their free time for years...besides he's a good QB in spite of stoops who is a bumbling idiot and should never be allowed to touch an offense "There ain't nothing you can't solve with one more beer"
Re: How does Boise State do it?
You very well could be right but because the majority of their players are not from "the vicinity" ie the hood they give this air of squeaky cleanness. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown
