One thing of note about the kickoff coverage team.
In the past, we have put starters in on kickoff coverage - Line, Yenga, Davis, etc.
The kickoff team in this game was all reserves and freshmen.
If you play frosh on the kickoff team the first couple of games, does it burn the redshirt or do you have to play a certain percentage of the plays? I think they are trying to see who to not redshirt and which frosh are ready for kickoff duty.

Come on Jason you've been on this board for how long? A SINGLE Play burns redshirt. That percentage of games played issue only applies to injured players

I think this thread should be changed from Special Teams to Kickoff Coverage.
Our kickoffs were terrible but the other parts of our special teams looked fine, including margus' continued terrorizing of the other team's kicker.

Reality check:KOR 31 yard for a 31 yard average. 3 of 4 punts inside the 20 1 blocked FG Kick off coverage was an issue allowing an average of 28 yards on 5 attempts. Not good but not devastating. Perhaps we know why the onside kick was tried at A&M.

Also, SMU is tied (2-way) for #22 in punt return yards allowed.

the kick off coverage is almost 100% due to bad kick offs.

The blocked kicks and nicely placed punts aside, we can't kick off and prevent 40+ yard returns. So, yes, special teams is are biggest weakness at this point.....but, then again, it has been for years.

I ask the same question every year, and you correct me. Someday I will learn. I am not old enough to forget . That said, my point was still that we are using a ton of young guys and backups on the coverage. Judging from the JR tweet today, the message was sent out. I am guessing they have until the Memphis game to show they belong on special teams.
