This SMU team is an enigma. On paper, they should be pretty good. A veteran offensive line, several talented receivers, a veteran QB with a solid backup, one of the better, on paper, running backs in the nation, a lot of veteran players on defense returning from an improved defense last year. The only top 25 team on the schedule is TCU. One of the likely big weaknesses at SMU is the kicking game. We could lose to any of the teams left on the schedule

How is Zach Line better "on paper"? He's one of the better running backs in the nation. Period.

Line is a good back with some quickness and size. He does lack real good speed. Not in the class with Dickerson or James or even McNeal, as far as a threat to go all the way. Of course Dickerson or James could probably not start for JJ. Not good enough blockers. LOL

But the statement wasn't that he's one of the top five all time, like Dickerson. Or that he's even one of the Southwest Conference's all time greats, like James. The statement was that Line's one of the better running backs in the nation right now.

He's unquestionably "one of the better" as he's #20 in total yards and tied for #1 in touchdowns. And it's not like this is a new development or he got lucky over the first three games.

Games ahead:
Memphis - W, plain and simple
TCU - Toughest game all year, they will be fresh from playing a FCS warmup (Portland). But we should be fresh, we are only playing Memphis.
UCF - FIU is better than their past. Will see how they bounce back against BYU friday. UCF is probably the best team in the east part of CUSA.
SM - They lost to Marshall, going to say right now they are overrated, will see how they do against UVA, Rice, and Navy
Tulsa - Great team with way too hard of a out of conference schedule. If they have their starting QB back will be a tough game, assuming they don't lose anymore key players after playing Boise. Saw how they destroyed Tulane.
Tulane - got destroyed by Tulsa, destroyed UAB. CUSA is volatile, will have to wait and see how they play against others. Who knows what team they will bring against us.
Navy - Will be a tough game if Navy keeps up their momentum. Could go on an undefeated streak going into our game with a win against ND. Will play ECU and SM so we can have CUSA teams to compare to.
Houston - probably the toughest conference game of the year @ Houston
Rice - final game at home, if we cant get to consistently beating Rice, we should just close shop. I know people on Pony fans complain about admin getting in the way of recruiting, but if after 4 years of June Jones, if Rice can still get better players than us with no athletic friendly majors, lower paid coaches, and higher academic standards, maybe we should just close shop and focus on academics so we can at least try in beat Rice in that.

Predicting we end up with 7 wins, qb controversy be dammed.

Tulsa is not the same team without Kinne and Dameris Johnson. Let's see if they get at least Kinne back-last time I looked Tulsa fans didn't think Johnson would be back until legal issues were resolved. But did you note that they had 2 RBs go for over 160 against Oklahoma St. Ja'Terian Douglas 175 and Trey Watts 163. Total Rushing yards 437 kinda an eye-opener.

Mstats- thanks for the synopsis. My only comments are that we have a better chance of beating the froggies this year than in the past few years. Tulsa will depend on Kinne. They seem to rely heavily on his running ability and that could be hampered by his knee injury. Rice is a little worriesome as they have played some good games and some bad ones. It just depends which Rice team shows up for us. If we are not ready and they are up then it could be an ugly game.

This, add Rice to that bunch too. They played Texas well and beat Perdue after all.

Didn't they do that against Okie State's reserves though?

Does Portland still run the R&S? If so that will certainly give the froggies a preview before we meet them.

I just looked it up and Portland apparently runs the pistol. That should give the froggies something else to worry about prior to our game.
