Now that is funny! What its worth, I think June was just playin to the crowd when he made those statements.... Hell, if you want to buck tradition and not go to the liberty bowl, lets play a Big 10 on new years day in the cotton bowl...now that would be fun. Getting worked up over nothing, IF, and its a small if, SMU wins Conference USA, I gaurantee we are not playing in Hawaii. June was just shooting from the hip to an interviewer that wanted to hear that.
Don't think so. That's what folks thought a couple years ago. I'd been hearing talk of us going to Hawaii again this year -- as if it's another done deal.

First of all, obviously it's a slap in the face in terms of travel expenses. Secondly, I (and I assume many others) would like to see how SMU fares against the SEC's #6 or #7 team

June had a point when he stated that the Hawaii Bowl was an unusual showcase being the only sporting event in its time slot. But appearing in a "New Year's Bowl" in Cotton Bowl (even if its not the real Cotton Bowl" would be a calling card in recruiting too.

I still disagree, remember, we did not win C USA that year..the hawaii bowl was a good fit. Like then and like now, if we actually won C USA we would ultimately go where C USA tells us. June has weight, but not that much, we will not bite the hand that feeds us. I hate talking bowls this early, especially championships...BAD JUNE!
Probaly won't happen...BUT...maybe it will!!

June doesn't really shy away from any question unless it is about the game that week.

No comparison...We did not win C USA when we went to the hawaii bowl. No point to be made. BUT if we win C USA we go where they tell us...end of story....that is the baggage you carry for being champions in a conference that has been very good to us.

Have trouble with the concept that a school gets to make this choice. If SMU gets the choice, let the players have the choice.
Having attended one Liberty Bowl, I feel that I have made my quota.

The comparison is identical: June said two years ago, IF we won the conference he didn't want to go to the Liberty Bowl. He said it way be before we knew SMU wouldn't win the title.

Maybe we're just waving goodbye to CUSA on our way out the door.

This has been pretty much common knowledge since the summer.
Unfortunately, it is a barrier to a lot of people giving the athletic department money this year since it will just go to paying for flights and hotels for Steve O's friends for their Christmas trip.
This is the kind of stuff that makes it hard to enjoy SMU's recent success and almost makes one sick to their stomach.
