Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!Anyone who thinks that Patterson's press conference made a difference in TCU getting into the Big 12 over SMU is delusional.
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!
FF- Texting may be the manner that personal business is contracted nowadays, but... -a rant like Patterson's should have warranted an apology in person(ie a drive over from scenic Ft. Worth to UP for an appointment with the party involved)...maybe I'm just old or old school, but if you rant publicly, you pay privately AND publicly. Seems he needs to put on the 'big-boy pants' and do more than an 'aw shucks' some days later at a friendly presser. -'passionate' about work/losing/job is not an excuse in any case for boorish behavior. I have certainly opened my mouth and let my brains fall out regularly, but excuses are never justification, especially when the excuse seeks to raise your own standing to those hearers about your 'passion' for your work. Self-serving at best... -that said, glad he did get around to it, and happy you folks have found a more (how about that for a qualifier) stable home in the Big 2 and the 8 dwarfs. Your program is/has become what ours seeks to be in terms of success...and for those of us that FONDLY remember the days of conference opponents that were all within a days drive, BEAT TEXAS LIKE A CHEAP DRUM when the opportunity presents itself. - stable-boy for the four horsemen of the apocalypse
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!
I posted this the day after the Patterson presser based on a comment from a friend who knows a TCU coach. It's not first hand, but think about this for a minute. Here's how it goes. Before the SMU game, TCU was on shaky ground re a Big 12 invite with some in the conference beginning to lean towards moving in a different direction than TCU. The loss to SMU, then, could not have come at a worse time -- the first time TCU had been out of the Top 25 in years, hours before an invite was expected. Patterson and the TCU brass devised a plan whereby he'd throw a public fit -- and not allow reporters to ask any other questions until he'd made sure he's repeatedly made his point -- about a) the CUSA homer officiating; and b)SMU's backstabbing comments after the game. Once they officially accepted the bid, not a moment before, Patterson comes crawling back with an apology.
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!
The timing of it is very strange but I'm not really buying the fact that this helped them in anyway.
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!
I remember that post, and I thought it was off base then as well. Even if one game made a difference (which is not the case), and even if the Big 12 could be convinced that refs cost them the game, how do the backstabbing comments factor into your elaborate theory? In what way would those comments about helping SMU and then being backstabbed help TCU get into the Big 12?
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!Occam's razor: Patterson is a low class unprofessional individual with very loose control of his emotions.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor Bertrand Russell offered what he called "a form of Occam's Razor" which was "Whenever possible, substitute constructions out of known entities for inferences to unknown entities." An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and
doesn't care who wins. -- Dwight D. Eisenhower
Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!Patterson is an idiot
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!I tuned into the middle of an interview this morning on 820 am. They were talking with someone from the Big 12 about why TCU was asked to join. The reasons:
--Outstanding academics. TCU graduates a high number of its athletes. --Progressive athletic policies (I'm not sure what that means, but that's what was said). --Construction on campus and stadium expansion. --Football's appearance in two major bowls. The person said that the presidents/chancellors of the Big 12 institutions are the ones who vote and that academics is very important to them. I think SMU is better in 3 of these 4 criteria. Obviously we've not been to two major bowl games, but I seriously doubt the Big 12 thought that TCU's campus is an advantage. And if these are the criteria, what about those Big 12 schools that don't graduate high numbers? What do the presidents and chancellors think about them? /No Hate. Just Facts. Occasional sarcasm.
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!
How can you think SMU is better than TCU at "progressive athletic policies" if you are not sure what it means?
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!
I didn't say what Patterson did was rational or very well thought out -- I just explained what he did. TCU was on the verge of an invite but was aware there was some reluctance from a few in the Big 12. In Patterson's mind, losing to SMU did not help that cause, so he went off with excuse after excuse for the loss in the hopes it would lessen damage and preserve the precarious invite. Dumb? Immature? Unprofessional? Low class? Yes.
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!ponyboy, maybe I am being dense here, but if true, how did he think that was supposed to help them get into the Big 12? I can see mitigting the loss with a whine about homer refs, but throwing the ponies and Jones under the bus does not seem to advance the cause on its face.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!Problem is, you're being rational. Mix in the fact that he was pizzed off losing to "inferior" SMU, who had publicly lobbied for the Big 12 position...
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!
Let's just keep that between us girls. I have a reputation to protect. I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: Patterson: Never mind -- I really do like June Jones!
Thank you for pointing out my deficiencies. I failed. /No Hate. Just Facts. Occasional sarcasm.

Absolute hogwash here.
