When are we going to catch a break?

We are not going to be in a conference with UTSA. We will form something nice with the Big East leftovers, minus perhaps Boise and SDSU

If I read this correctly, the BB schools are leaving the BE and not dissolving it...right? If so then we still have a conference to work within. Depends upon the school presidents and conference commissioner to hopefully make this work out some way.

They haven't made the decision to leave or dissolve yet. That's buried in the story.

so you guys would rather play UMASS every year than stay.

I wonder if the invites were conditional on everyone leaving in 2013?

What a shame. CUSA 16 wouldve dominated.

Here's hoping we can work out, probably under the aegis of the NBE, a regionally rational conference arrangement with those second tier schools and will not be forced to mingle with the tier threes we've just left behind.

Yep...Tier 1 is the "Power 5," Tier 2 is the Big East/MWC, Tier 3 is MAC, Tier 4 is CUSA/Sun Belt

I was exchanging emails with Frank the Tank (college fb blogger, good guy) - and mentioned how our admin has consistently stated that exposure on the east coast, specifically the northeast, is the goal of joining the big east, even after the defections.

But I am starting to rethink that view - the east will always be unstable until ACC stops raiding. After Marshall and USM, there are just not very many east coast schools that are worth adding.

The West coast, on the other hand, has been very stable. Perhaps our best bet is to align ourselves with Boise, SDSU, UH in the MWC and hope for that PAC 12 update at some point??

Whether there are any interesting western opportunities available, we may find that the NBE connection is too sticky at this point to easily extricate ourselves. Unless there's some sort of out clause, dissolution arrangement for the NBE contingent upon a certain number of teams leaving.

Ha, I can see that. In both scenarios, the most recent adidtions get screwed over the most

Well, by adding UMASS, and possibly Villanova and Georgetown you keep hoops strong, and a presence in the Northeast. I'm not saying it is ideal, but football would be competitive and basketball would be as good as if not better than the Big East we were set to join. I count 6 bids from a 10 team conference which would not be bad. Losing Marquette, Depaul, St John's, Providence, Seton Hall would not affect us in the least as the only currently strong program from those 5 is Marquette.

He'll stay IMO. For 3 years at least. I think he is getting the feeling back and knows he could have a good team regardless of conference. he seems to really like the kids who are playing for him now.

Schools send out invitations from Top to Bottom-asking them to send money for admission fees. The ones at the top get all their money-really just theSEC and Big 10. The ones at the bottom pay their money in but never get what they were promised. At each level they pass the invitation down to next and the next pass it down to the next. All that is being done is that

the ACC becomes the Big East
The Big East becomes CUSA
CUSA becomes the Sun Belt
the MWC becomes the WAC
The Sunbelt and WAC become the Division 1AA

All the schools down the chain get fleeced of their money and not a single one of these 60 or so schools is getting what they were promised. Only the SEC and Big 10 schools are happy.

Beyond that, the guy seems to love SMU and bought 2 boxes worth of stuff at the bookstore yesterday (when it was already clear that the Big East was falling apart).

I think we have found our coach until he decides to retire...which could be after this season for all I know.
