Re: @CoachJuneJones on WFAA W/Dale Hansen at 6:15pmI understand maybe not wanting the guys to hit each other in scrimmage type situations, but not even some hitting type drills?
I mean why would you not want football players acclimated to contact? ____________________________________________________________

We too play 4 games that don't count, at least when talking about conference Championship!
Re: @CoachJuneJones on WFAA W/Dale Hansen at 6:15pm
Those are professional athletes that are the best of the best, not a bunch of diamonds in the rough still trying to learn their way through the game. You can't compare the two at all. Plus NFL teams get 4 pre-season games. I'm sure the sand aggies grinned when they heard that. What a joke BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.
Re: @CoachJuneJones on WFAA W/Dale Hansen at 6:15pmTo me it seems like this would put us at a disadvantage but I don't have any concrete data to back it up. We can't afford injuries, so from that point of view it makes sense. Also, the kids need to be focussing on the system, where to be, what to read, so perhaps JJ takes away the element of "I'm about to get killed" until game day to allow them focus.
I'm not a fan of the policy but I'm in no place to condemn it out of hand. It will help everyone get on board when he have annihilated Tech. Mustangs Abu!
Re: @CoachJuneJones on WFAA W/Dale Hansen at 6:15pmBetter look more prepared and ready to play real football than against Baylor. That was embarrassing. Didn't even belong on the same field.

Well, apparently it still didn't reach much of SMU's most ardent fan base so...
Re: @CoachJuneJones on WFAA W/Dale Hansen at 6:15pm
Be interesting to know how many of the "top 25" programs don't hit at all during August practices........... Peruna is my mascot!
Re: @CoachJuneJones on WFAA W/Dale Hansen at 6:15pm
Should we look at the first 4 games as preseason since we can go to a BCS game by simply winning conference (for this year only)? "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

They hit their mothers... Mustangs Abu!
Re: @CoachJuneJones on WFAA W/Dale Hansen at 6:15pm
Wonder what JJ has "penciled in" with regards to the record for the first four games? Peruna is my mascot!
Re: @CoachJuneJones on WFAA W/Dale Hansen at 6:15pm
I hope no worse than 1-3! GO MUSTANGS!
Re: @CoachJuneJones on WFAA W/Dale Hansen at 6:15pm
Very few if any. Most do "limited hitting" from what I can tell though. I know the Pac12 has adopted this practice, which means they hit but don't take to the ground except maybe once/twice a week. Bottom line: we need to hit more IMHO. There's a way to do it so that your team is tough and ready but in a way that minimizes injury/maximizes teaching. I saw a study recently that even suggested that the risk of concussions INCREASE due to not hitting in practice because of poor technique, etc, in games. I'm talking about spring and summer ball primarily. Maybe hit once during the week once the season starts, but dial it way back then.
Re: @CoachJuneJones on WFAA W/Dale Hansen at 6:15pmWe used to hit and tackle full speed on Wednesdays during the season ( and we loved it). No way these kids will be speed ready against Tech as has been witnessed during the previous openers under Jones.
