What is the big deal? People get thrown out of frat parties all the time. Inevitably, frat parties attract people from outside. Sometimes, they are welcome to stay. Sometimes, they are asked to leave.

When I was at UT (grad school), my fraternity allegedly threw out a UT football player - by force.

What's the big deal, though? Yeah, he's partying. He's 20 years old in college. It's not like he's beating women or running drugs across the border. I don't see him doing anything that's really out of line or uncalled for. Just because you're a star QB doesn't mean you can't have fun. Just win, baby.

As long as it doesn't affect his on-the-field performance and he's not doing anything THAT bad, I could care less. More power to him.

Funny thing is- every single person criticizing him now would trade places with him in a heartbeat.

ECM, Manziel's constant mantra is exactly as you state "I am a 20 year old college student..." It is the rinse and repeat answer for questions about his behavior, tweets, pics, etc.

Age doesn't constitute a 'free-pass' what is illegal (under-age drinking, etc) at least by current law. As far as the critics willing to trade places with him, not so sure that I can agree with that one either...he is, after all, forever to be known as an Aggie.

Ok, everyone who didn't drink before they were 21 is more than welcome to cast stones at Manziel

Bingo.

Drinking and going to parties is what college kids do. Anyone who suggests that Manziel should have to be "better than that" is dreaming.

This is what we know:
1) Manziel ended up at a fraternity party in Austin. Presumably, someone invited him to the party and/or brought him to the party. \2) For whatever reason (probably spite), the fraternity members decided that he was not welcome at their event. They asked him to leave.
3) He left.
4) He didn't appear drunk or stoned. He didn't assault anyone. He didn't drive while intoxicated.

ECM, no purse fight intended here.

I am a pastor. I wasn't always a pastor. That isn't the issue here, or in the discussion of JF and his actions.

The 'big deal' as you asked earlier is that Mr. Manziel is not just a "20 year old college student" as he claims, but an extraordinarily talented one that has had attention glammed on him during every waking moment. Fair or not, it is the life that he is in and has chosen, and the events of his life are chronicled INSTANTLY. He has steadfastly refused efforts from others to counsel wisdom in his actions, and I'm afraid is headed for more than just a critical fall.

Got no stone in my hand to cast on this one either...just know that the writing in the dirt (to carry your analogy) means something serious if nothing changes.

Fair enough. I just don't think that "Manziel kicked out of UT frat party" should be a headline on ESPN. He's 20 years old, let him live his life as he pleases. I don't know that he's "chosen" this life, he just happened to be really damn good at football last season. If he'd lost the starting QB competition no one would know who he is outside of College Station.

Yeah, drinking under 21 is illegal- but so is driving 40mph in a 30. The vast majority of college students today drink underage. I don't think it needs to be a front page headline that Johnny Manziel is out partying. If he's getting lit up the night before games and then throws three picks; then go ahead and roast him. If he drives drunk or beats someone up, that's a story. A 20 year old college kid partying at a nearby school, however, is NOT a news story in my opinion.

Put this another way- I know a lot of good, decent, responsible people who did a lot dumber things than Johnny Manziel has done so far in college.

Were you a national role model, too?

This is foreshadowing Johnny Football into the upcoming Johnny Flame-out scenario.

NO ONE is upset that he is doing this, just disappointed in someone for his own benefit that has such a huge potential about to flame out...and won't control himself.

I guess you were one of those that thought it a good idea for Tony Romo to go on vacation during the playoffs after a 13-3 season (and then come back and flame out ever since).

Yes, but you also didn't have the opportunities that Manziel has. He needs to focus on football and his studies. Once his career flames out he can do whatever he wants.

Lighten up Francis.

It was a weekend party during summer break.

When Jeavan Snead was at Texas he was kicked out and banned from all of the good fraternities just for being a giant d--bag who wears Affliction. As for Manziel, going to a Texas party just isn't smart regardless

My only real point in starting the thread is that Manziel can't stand College Station and spends most of his time somewhere/anywhere else but in College Station or on campus. Think recruits needed to be reminded just "small his world is" in College Station.

Well call me crazy but I'm actually starting to like this guy's schtick
; in a way it is refreshing to see someone thumb their nose at 'Big Football Media' and simply have some fun. Isn't this essentially the Bobby Layne story, for those of you who were around then ?
