At this point Gilbert is who he is (an inaccurate passer better suited to handing the ball off or running with it). Sticking him in a pass heavy Air Raid attack where he'll have to rely on a raw o-line and mediocre wideouts for support is likely to push him further into mediocrity.

And yet if there is one play.. okay, two in the RnS that scares me to death it is the slot out and the wr screen that we saw get blown up so many times last year.. Two decidedly non - vertical plays

Yet that wide receiver scree was run successfully against us many times last year. Apparently it works very well for us in practice.

Agreed. I never understood why it always seemed we had our smallest receiver being the lead blocker on that play. Seems a perfect opportunity for Gaines to lead for Thompson (biggest and strongest lead blocker WR for our fastest/shiftiest WR). Seems common sensical to me. If we utilize Gaines well, he could be all world (lead blocker, occasional rusher, receiver over the middle, etc).

The huge assumption of this post is that JJ will let Mumme call plays. I personally do not think JJ will allow anyone to take away from his play calling. Bottom line is that I see nothing different as Mumme will not be properly used.

I have been saying this from the beginning. Will the offense be better? I hope so just from an experience aspect at QB. Will the play calling change? I do not think so. Jones will definitely be calling the plays. Whether or not there have been any new plays inserted into the offense is the only question.

Not to mention our WR play was very poor - DJ was pretty bad - no deep threat & i wonder how many deep balls we completed. I can only think of a few heaves by GG to the end zone. Thompson better show us something. Even if GG was better, you wonder... How many dropped balls did we see??

It doesn't matter who calls plays the playbook is changing. Replace th wr screen, our one short route play, with a ton of shorter routes and you get the picture.

this is great news. I could call the plays in certain situations and they are getting way too predictable. Need new stuff and Hal should provide

The Beasley screen they run like 1000 times? Thats good - works 1 in 50

I have thumbed through the album with pictures from the past 5 years. Hopefully a new camera has inspired some new photographic techniques.

I think he will do well this year also. Some if his problems was due do the poor play of our receivers, as Giddyup alluded. If he improves and our receivers improve his overall play will be fine. He added in the running and it helped greatly. Get it all together and I have high hopes for the offense.

GG obviously didn't play great last year, but if you take the 5 drops per game into account, his percentage completion would be about 10% points higher, which is much better.

I am excited about the fact that if Gilbert struggles, Burcham can step in and play, and is extremely accurate.

If Thompson struggles with drops, Taylor will play.

If Holman struggles, Halverson will play

If Darious struggles, Deion will play

If JJ struggles, Stewart will play.

The depth on the team is going to push people on offense to be more consistent. We are much, much deeper at OL, QB, WR, and RB than we have been in quite some time. Last year, we had noone else to go to at a lot of those positions if people struggled. Now we have the depth to make changes and see who performs on the field.
