Re: I hope we don't burn too many redshirts this yearIf you choose to burn a redshirt you damn well better use them. Guys like Taylor and Gaines better rotate in frequently. If JJ stubbornly keeps them on the sidelines or leaves them only for special teams he's a fool. I think we'll see minor quite a bit and if performs well will probably be the starter by midseason.
Re: I hope we don't burn too many redshirts this year
Seems like it's more a case of not really valuing the guy and wasting a year of his PT. Surely you can evaluate someone in practice enough to know if you want to give them a chance on the field vs. not at all.

Might be a little harder when there isn't any hitting or going 100% at practice........ Peruna is my mascot!
Re: I hope we don't burn too many redshirts this yearIn a recent interview, June expressed some regret at having to throw (I believe he specifically mentioned) Pope and Joyner in as freshman because now he wishes he could have them for another year. So it least the redshirt issue in the forefront of his thinking. So with that in mind, I really hope we don't have to see Minor this year, although from practice reports, he undoubtedly deserves playing time.
If they can get prepared in time, it's likely we will see a couple of freshmen receivers. According to the reports I've seen coming out of practice, it is clear that a couple of the freshmen may already be the best receivers on the roster. So that, combined with the possibility that we may see more rotation at the skill positions, leads me to believe that we may see some of the freshmen WRs if they can learn the system and get on the same page with Gilbert quickly enough. Pure speculation on my part, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it. We're loaded at linebacker, so no freshmen linebackers this year please. "It's a couple hundred million dollars. Re: I hope we don't burn too many redshirts this yearI think the chances of SMU's current DEs playing at a level that would keep Minor off the field are slim. He's gonna play and he is already physically ready to play.

Re: I hope we don't burn too many redshirts this yearI hope they redshirt as many DB's, WR's and DE's as possible. Especially if they are only going to use them 3 to 4 plays or so per game.

Re: I hope we don't burn too many redshirts this year
This ^. I wish it wasn't true (ie we had recruited better previously) but it is what it is.
Re: I hope we don't burn too many redshirts this yearWell I guess we can add 13 or 14 players per June to the burned redshirt list this year (and I hope I am wrong but from what the trend with this staff seems to be probably close to that next year as well). I guess we will see how many have minimal playing time over the year.
