I wasn't embarrassed for SMU in the 1989 game-just embarrased for UH. Several schools could have run up [name your number] on SMU that year-only 1 REALLY tried to do it. Embarrassing is when you lose because you aren't playing to potential. With the DB injuries in that game SMU was physically unable to compete

'76 SMU vs. Alabama in Birmingham. We were kicking their tails 3-0 at the end of the 1st quarter

By the end of the game its 56-3. That was the worse loss in SMU history until post DP.

And we were not a devoid of talent like some other SMU teams later. We had future NFLers A Whittington, R. Wesson and B Fisher. And a furture All-American in E Tolbert.

On top of it all Meyer said to the team 'Don't get on the plane unless you believe we can beat Alabama." And it was published in the papers.

I didn't believe but I wasn't gonna miss the trip. And it was humiliating.

Ah, yes. Who else here remembers how bad that one stung? My buddy from Rice sent me a telegraph afterwards rubbing it in.

Maybe not the most embarrassing, but the most disappointing, was when we were alive for a bowl bid chance but lost to Rice down in Houston during PB's tenure. I recall twice we had first and goal at the one yard line after two long returns. Couldn't convert either possession into a single point.

But the most embarrassing thing for me as a fan involved a game that we won. Im speaking of when we met UCF, the defending conference champ that beat us in the championship game the year prior, at Ford, coming off a huge win against TCU. We won the game handily but only a handful of fans bothered to show up for what should have been one of our biggest crowds in years. Winning both of those games should have turned many corners for our program, but the team seemed to lose interest in the season after that.

I'm not sure that I have ever been truly humiliated by any loss. The humiliation comes with the repercussions from the Bourbon binge while watching and immediately after the losses. From time to time they have been both Epic and Tragic.

I was pretty embarrassed when the fightin' mustaches laid a giant turd in Denton in 2006.

That last home game in 1986 after David Stanley went public. The few fans that showed up got to watch a team that had given up.

Wonder how/if the course of SMU football might have changed had we won that one and gone to a bowl.

The infamous Tech "ALL OUT"-blitz game...2007? I pretty much gave up on the hope of rooting for a competent program at that point. All game the announcers were talking about how stupid that was and all week it was played on Sportscenter so they could point out how stupid that was. For a whole week, we were the biggest joke in college football.

Second place would be the tanking we did in New Orleans vs. Tulane in 2012, giving them their biggest win of the season, in front of all fifteen of their fans.

Phil "I've forgotten more football than all of you will ever know" Bennett probably would have gotten a lengthy contract extension.........
