if we are REALLY searching for positives about last night, how about this one:

when SMU opted out of the Baylor game in favor of Montana State, the plan was to get a much needed win in the non-conference schedule. In making this change, SMU undoubtedly knew it would result in 10-15,000 fewer fans in attendance and I'm sure several season ticket holders passed on this one thinking it would be a boring game.

Mission accomplished in terms of getting that W - and those who attended and stayed until the end watched a very exciting game. Have to admit that as much as I was dogging the team throughout that game, they showed some heart there on that final drive.

For those who attended, did most people stay the entire game? Granted, there weren't as many to "thin out" but on the telecast, it appeared most stayed the entire game

Half the students left as usual but 95% of the rest of the crowd stayed. Good retention.

There's a lot on which to improve. But there were some definite positives:

Darius Joseph has come miles since last year. The receivers, on the whole, look much better.
Jeremy Johnson has 2 catches of more than 50 yards this year. (How many 50+ passes did we have all year last year?)
Stephon Sanders looks awesome, and Seals and Pope look strong, too. (Get better, Joyner!)
Chase Hover is 6 of 7, despite that inexplicable miss last week.
Gilbert is much, much better than last year. I don't know if it's the Mumme influence, his comfort level, or something else, and really don't care. He has more than 700 yards and no picks. Big improvement.

Despite not being one hundred percent (injuries to Joyner, Shead), we won.

Despite terrible red zone turnovers and horrendous penalties, we won.

81 yard, 13 play drive with less than 4 minutes to win the game.

D didn't cave after 3 quarters of Zombie Apocalypse play.

GG was much better. Hit more passes and long passes and made some good runs.

Punt return for a TD

Excellent time management at the end of both halves.

We are good enough to win a game even when we play unbelievable pathetic. We haven't played bad and win against decent opponents in a long time.

Next home game, should be a decent temp.
