He threw one to the end zone that was perfect except the receiver was slowed by the defender holding his jersey. This was far and away Gilbert's best game. That said he will not survive A&M if he dies not get more protection.
I am astounded to see posters posting negative about Gilbert and Darius Joseph. They are and will continue to be a great combination. They won this game tonight.
Some of you might want to belittle Hoover tonight also since his 3 for 3 were all needed for the win so I guess he sucks too.
Yeah I really do not understand how we are still seeing "Gilbert is not the answer" comments.

I gave him an extra 0 because that is how many kicks he missed tonight.

Gilbert is well on his way to having a super year this year. As for the offensive line, I see some good blocking. However, they seem to not pick up blitzes etc. One of the blitzes that hurt us the worst was a db would come around end and there wasn't anyone to pick him up. I am hoping that the line play (and rb) blocking will improve with experience. I thought they were somewhat better this game then when they played Texas Tech. However, you would think that would be the case anyway.
Also, I thought it was obvious when an all out blitz was about to happen because the outside db's played SMU outside receivers tight. I was hoping GG would be able to catch them too tight on a quick release for a big gain. (Didn't happen)

I was looking forward to seeing Gilbert play this year and have not been disappointed. His throws have better touch this year. He is on target. He is making good decisions. He ios the best QB over all we have had in a very long time.
The O line is blowing a lot of blocking assignments on the pass rush. The blitzes thus far have really confused the O line. They should (and I pray do) get better with more experience and practice.
Gilbert is 70-110 or 69% YTD. He is averaging 352 yards passing for the first two games. Over 700 yards passing in two games! And one was against a true BSC team.
No Interceptions!
He has rushed for 86 yards (that includes sacks). He is less than 20 yards for 800 yards total offense in just two games.
We haven't seen numbers like that from a QB perhaps ever.
He is having a great season. He just needs those around him to step up and play better (both sides of the ball).

Sometimes i feel like i must have watched a different game, or that maybe some people have never watched anyone else play football. Other recovers drop balls, other qb's miss passes and other kickers occasionally miss a field goal. Its part of the game. Gilbert, Joseph and Hoover all had great games - and some people on this board have railed on all three. Crazy.
Now June - its open season on that guy as far as i am concerned.

Congrats to JaBryce Talor -
BIGGEST PLAY OF THE NIGHT, imo.
We took a teams bedt shot, played poorly and still won. We're 1-1, which is what most expected us to be at this point. Everyone on our schedule looks beatable (with the exception of A&M, and who knows) especially TCU after yesterday. Somehow best either of those teams and that's a big win.

I try to be fair and reasonable, especially when posting about players. I have made the comment before and it was echoed last night about the perceived lack of leadership on this team. Gilbert has carried this team on his back for the last two weeks and deserves kudos. Either the other players fall in line and follow or find a comfy spot on the bench.
The results haven't been better because he has gotten little or no help. When multiple people are coming off the edge, RBs have been picking up the outside blitzer and given the inside blitzer a free run. The O Line is just porous when facing any kind of blitz package from the inside. WRs dropping catchable balls. We haven't seen one WR break a tackle and go for extra yards. False start penalties. GG is playing his heart out with both his arm and feet.
On Defense, I am just baffled. We knew coming into the season that the front 7 was going to be inexperienced, but our strength was supposed to be our secondary. How many wide open WRs did we see running free in the last two weeks? Maybe it is because the DL is not getting the same push up front so QBs can find them. I don't know. But someone needs to step up and lead this group. If they are going to make mistakes at least do it passionately. The apathy makes me nuts. What is really baffling is that they are getting personal fouls while being this apathetic.

No question that GG and a couple of others have kept us alive. What is really disappointing is the performance of both the O and D lines as well as our pass D. We are lucky to have won that game and are going to have to have major improvement if we are going to be at the top of the AAC.
