[quote="ponyboy Is that the same Rice that everyone on here was whining about us losing to last year?[/quote]

Yes PB. It is also the same Rice that has much higher academic standards, has fewer fans at the games and pays their coach less than 1/3 of what Junesus gets. Bailiff is ranked 95th in coaches salaries at 600k vs JJ -45th at 2 mil+ per yr. Doesn't seem like we are really getting our monies worth - does it.

Since we have a common opponent this year in aTm and both teams play them in a relative close time frame it should be interesting to see how we compare.
Oh, let's not forget that they beat a B12 team while we failed to do so.
IMO it is really time for JJ to go. He did a good job getting us to mediocrity but now we must move forward or drop down to a level where we can compete.

Agreed. The Tulane loss was inexcusable. The Rice loss simply showed that our wheels have been stuck in neutral as others have moved forward.

Stuck in neutral at a level unheard or dreamt of in twenty years before JJ got here. Neutral when you're ranked #113 out of #117 is no gusta. Not nearly so bad if you're #57.

Got an opportunity this weekend to kick this thing out of neutral. A lesser opportunity the following week, though a win in either game woudn't materially help our recruiting problems.

#57 would be nice... don't recall if we've been that high except for the 5-1 run in 2011.

redpony, I like what Rice done, I have always liked their coach. He seems to get the most out of his players with very little support from the school. In all fairness, Rice did beat Kansas, arguably the worst team in the Big 12 and one of the worst programs in the country, but they did it back to back. We lost to what is looking like a better than expected Tech team. Rice did have the benefit of playing A&M with I believe 5 starters missing on Defense and Money Badger sitting on the sidelines the first half. Having said that, you play what is presented to you and Rice has done a very good job of taking care of business while SMU has not. Rice is getting a better bang for the buck with their HC.
I am not making excuses for SMU or Rice, I have been in the camp it is time for a change in the HC at SMU for sometime. I just wanted to throw this info out for discussion

I'd love to see them take Tulsa down and then ECU in the Championship Game. CUSA is a good conference for them. Don't want them to beat Houston since we play the Coogs and need them to be highly ranked when we beat 'em.

You should actually hope for ECU and Tulsa and even Tulane (still waiting for the barf emoticon) to win as many games as possible this year. They need to be good in order to help the AAC that will be much weaker next year sans Louisville and Rutgers. I hope Rice loses to all of them and Tulsa and ECU meet in the CUSA championship.

The AAC needs all the positive perception that it can get

That last sentence is where you lose me. You and I both want relevant SMU teams, so why would we be satisfied with being stuck in neutral at any level? Our message should be: Move Up or Move Out

Sorry, that's #54 not #57. We are number #54 out of 120 teams in winning percentage the last four years under JJ.

BTW, an average of Congrove final rankings has us as #56 over that same four year period. In all fairness, I don't think Sagarin was as kind -- but it's not off by a material number.
