Coker is a great coach but we really do need more youth and energy...I'd kill for us to find a way to lure Chad Morris away from Clemson... Texas connections... high powered offense... think he'd bring some excitement to Dallas... plus he'd be a first time college HC so he'd have that added incentive to try harder than someone who's already experienced success.

I have 2 names to throw out there:

1. Mike Sherman

2. Pete Mangurian

Both have good Texas ties (even SMU ties with Pete), NFL cred. and bring in good assistants that can recruit and go on to be head coaches in their own right, which shows their calibre. All of the talent that Sumlin has is thanks to Sherman. Thoughts on these 2 candidates.

I haven't heard a lot of great things about Sherman from his time in College Station. I really think he's built for the pros and not college.

Not advocating for hiring Coker, just trying to point out we really need to get our act together and have a plan we are working the right way and that other places are doing it like UTSA. NO reason SMU can't be better about this. If not June then I think younger coach with excitement, excited to be at SMU, etc. that gets Texas recruiting and gets recruits and fans enthusiastic about the program. Now perception right or wrong is we are kinda going thru motions, and that gets to potential recruits and more important fans and potential customers of the product. Even many long timers like me are finally starting to tune out, many of us spoke about that at Montana State game.

We have to be realistic about where we are in the pecking order of things, and of course we may not win them all, but at least need to look like we care, are trying to win them all, have a plan to work to get better, give 100% all the time, are well coached, etc. I want us to win everytime we step on the field, but I can take a loss if people are saying "but we played a well coached team" or "they sure still played hard" instead of saying our group has no energy and enthusiasm like the announcers in the Tech game pointed out.

Another embarassment for SMU football. Sure we were up against a top 10 team, but penalties, lack of proper execution and overall sloppy play is no way to go through life, son. If you as a player couldn't get up for a game against the most exciting player in sports, in one of the most exciting and toughest venues in college football, then there is no hope. What's more exciting, busting A&M in the chops, holding tough and making it respectable or winning by one point over lowly Montana State?

IMO, it's coaching. We looked scared to death and intimidated on the field. A&M calling out our plays at the line of scrimmage causing false starts? Coaching and lack of preparation.

it's embarrasing to be an SMU fan and alum. This mess has been going on for too long. Ty Webb had it right when he said we should just stop beating ourselves.

Pony in Sa is right. We look scared and poorly coached. Special team ko returns are really bad...missing the ex st coord. To have a fr back there who doesn't know what to do is inexcusable. If you get the ball 5 yards deep on a high ko and you have to think about it for a couple of seconds as you drift towards the goal line you are in trouble already. Receiver caught a cr rt early and rather than running upfield for 10-15 ran out of bounds satisfied with a 10 yard reception. I feel bad for the players that they are so ill-prepared. But then you watch Fresno State beat Boise St and you have to wonder..........

We already have a stiff for a coach, why do we need Sherman?

1. Mike Sherman

I thought the goal was to get a coach who has his team looking prepared every game? Sherman was horrible at adjustments. If the game wasn't going according to what he planned A&M was doomed.

Chad Morris would be a great hire.
