I think June should be fired, but there's no way he thinks like this. June giving up after one poor showing against an opponent no one cares about... To what end?
June already accomplished what he wanted to accomplish. He got Hawaii to a BCS bowl. SMU is him building up his retirement fund. To suggest that his effort is determined by the number of fans in the stands vastly overestimates his emotional involvement to SMU. He doesn't care about what school is writing his checks, he doesn't care about whether anyone is in the stands or not, and he doesn't care about preparing for any wins other than the ones he predetermines are needed for him to keep getting his money.

Baylor, tcu, Texas tech, sure. But I'd bet 80% of "smu fans" have no idea UCF is even in our conference, let alone that they were our main competition for the conference championship that year.
I'm pretty sure an undefeated Top 10 UH team had the inside track for the championship that year.

Southern Miss would argue otherwise.

If you coming off a long period of irrelevance, then how can you look down on another program?

ECM, rangers typically play better than us lol so more fun for the average fan to watch than that.
Also beating a 20 ranked TCU team shouldn't sell out a crappy UCF team at the time in the middle of the afternoon, heck I even remember getting a bit sun sick from that game so really the culprit for our fans not showing up was our crappy time slots and being in Texas lol

Hey, but the Rangers were playing one of their 300 games that night, right?

It was pretty pathetic that more did not attend our game, but yes as you pointed out it was the night of Game 6 of the ALCS in which the Rangers won to go to the World Series, which most impacted some fans from going to the game. I managed to make it to both games that day. I must admit I did end up leaving the game after the 3rd, but we did have the game pretty well in hand at that point.
I went to the Ranger game too!

If Tulane can muster enough pride to beat us in front of 50 fans...our guys should be internally motivated enough to play hard for 22,000. I don't get needing external factors to motivate you to win. You win because you want to, for you coach, for your teammates, etc.. If true, what wimpy wimps.

Yeah, that was a pretty magnificent choke job that cost you a BCS bowl game.

It is what it is, Southern Miss has been cursed for screwing the conference out of millions of dollars and rightfully so. They were rejected from the AAC and has not won a regular season game since.

So USM should have laid down for UH? Now that's the competitive spirit!

I agree. Our pathetic attendance likely has a big impact on recruiting, but it should never determine our team's effort.
