Just heard Gene Chizik speak here in Little Rock. Very impressive gentleman. Said he was the first Auburn coach to go to 3 straight bowls and win a national championship since I believe 1956. Then had a 3-9 season and got canned. Holds no grudge, loves Auburn, consults with Malzahn, and promised his 13 and 16 year old children they would be in Auburn until they finish high school. But added he may need to commute. Don't know much more about him but he has been at Texas and sounded impressive.

Also heard odds on replacing Kiffen. One of the names mentioned was Petrino with the added note that infidelity in southern California is called Tuesday. Petrino was 15-1. Del Rio is less than 1-1.

Must be under 50 years old in order to relate to recruits.
Must embrace Peruna as the only mascot.
Must wear red and/or blue to games.
Must hold a weekly show/event to interact with fans.
Must show emotion on sideline during games.
Must return to blue jerseys.

Sounds to me like you all want to hire Phil Bennett circa 10 years ago, or perhaps Mike Caven, circa 15 years ago...

Seems as if you are missing the point and purposely doing it. You said nothing of recruiting or getting players ready to play a full game. Look JJ is leaving at some point so we will have to have another coach whether you like it or not.

You missed my point. I could care less about every one of the above criteria - all of which is being bantered in the below threads.

My list has only one criteria:
Just win baby.

And given that criteria, June does not qualify.

The last 4 seasons he does.

The last SMU coach who has a better record overall without being put on NCAA probation is
Matty Bell from the 40s.

Madison "Matty" Bell 1945–1949 32-16-5

Harvey “Rusty” Russell 1950–1952 13-15-2

Chalmer “Woody” Woodard 1953–1956 19-20-1

William "Bill" Meek 1957–1961 17-29-4

Hayden Fry 1962–1972 49-66-1

Dave Smith 1973–1975 16-15-2 NCAA probation pay for play

Ron Meyer 1976–1981 34-32-1 NCAA probation pay for play

Bobby Collins 1982–1986 43-14-1 NCAA death penalty a payroll to meet :!:

Forrest Gregg 1989–1990 3-19-0

Tom Rossley 1991–1996 15-48-3

Mike Cavan 1997–2001 22-34-0

Phil Bennett 2002–2007 18-52-0

June Jones 2008–Present 32-37-0

What are the odds that SUPERCOACH exists, and why would he want to come to SMU :?:

Probably less than the GREAT PUMPKIN from Peanuts.
May the forth be with us.

It's Butch Davis

Thx. . . New it was Butch something

NM. . . Saw that Butch Davis is 62 years old. . . Somebody younger I guess

Butch Davis also left UNC amid major recruiting violations, so that would never fly.

Butch Jones is also Tennessee's head coach fyi
BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.

1) He can't get caught cheating. Everybody does it; the 'perfect' coach does it and doesn't get caught.

2) Doesn’t allow little boy rapist to use football facilities to lure victims.

3) Shots on sight any man caught raping a little boy (or girl) on football property.

4) Doesn’t lie to the AD after he crashes his Hog with a super hot younger babe on it with him.

5) Doesn’t use a school credit card at some Pensacola strip club (Sammy’s in particular).

6) Doesn’t get caught lying about his resume.

These are just a few things one might consider as necessary for the next ‘perfect’ coach.

To Point #1, I agree Ponyte, don't get caught.
I know it might seem blasphemous to some, but I would gladly accept a slap on the wrist from NCAA if it meant a return to some glory days. Lets face it, everybody is still cheating,..

Now I know Kris89 must be an undercover JJ support making a terrible statement like that. The USF coach is recruiting well because he has a good staff. We just need to build a good staff.

Actually, I was not being sarcastic at all, just agreeing with Pony Tight End's first point, and expounding a bit.
As for JJ supporter. I am all for Smu, and I'm thankful for 4 winning seasons and bowls. But, the ASU thing and recent play still has me steamed.

PONYKRIS89 comment to add...This shows that the only way to win at SMU is to cheat like every other school.
Just don't do it again after NCAA told ya that DP is in your future if it continues.

I am all for bending the rules to the same level as everyone else, but your comparison is silly. Thise other coaches had a much harder schedule.

Not so much. You consider the SWC back in those days were full of Rices, TCUs, Baylors, TTs
A&Ms who were all bottomfeeders at one time or another. Texas even sucked before DKR :!:
