I honestly would have put you at higher than 98%. Plus, the effort you give to get others inside is phenomenal.

Very humbling. Gracias. I am however occasionally [very] fashionably late for lunch

I go to a few. Certainly not all and not many away games. When I can, I try to bring folks with me. One thing I have noticed, those that are young and have never attended a college game are very impressed by the experience.

I invited a young man (friend of the family) to a game (Tulane, last game over the Thanksgiving holiday). Poor weather, poor attendance and not a great game. He however, treasured the ticket stub. He was thrilled by the experience.

Perhaps we should look at ways to expand our fan based to young though probably transient) fans. I know we have tried in the past to do this but I am not aware of the results.

I do wish I could make more games but I am not a point in my life whare I can dedicate myself completely to SMU fandom.

you old guys don't realize the pain the newbies have gone through during last 4 bowl years-the newbies were denied an opportunity to see SMU win 25% of its games over 2 decades and lose to Rice every damn year-and then SMU has the audacity to expect the newbies to stay for 4 quarters? Huh! Call me when you get to 11-2 and have Big 12 membership then I may support the program-until then I really can't be bothered

Those same newbies were cheated out of seeing Doak Walker, Kyle Rote, the Pony Express and some of the greatest fball ever played by us. They need to endure the pain and 'pony up'. Be part of the solution- not the problem.

I live 1500 miles away, am pursuing a graduate degree, have almost no disposable income, and a mountain of debt. I guess since I can't physically make most games, I'm prohibited from ever talking about it because clearly I don't do anything else to support the program and I'm part of the problem. Thank you so much for straightening me out!

lord - everyone chill. There is no entry fee in time or money to post on a fan board. And I have been to almost every home game and many away, but don't expect that from everyone. We need to provide a bigger tent, not figure out ways to [deleted] each other off. Come to what you can when you can - and just always talk it up so that we get more casual fans to come more often.

Here's the thing. The old timers like me (1985), picked SMU because it was a good school with a good football team in a good conference. The newbies picked SMU only because it was a good school . If the newbies were interested in football, they would not have chosen SMU because SMU football has been in the tank for decades. It's good that some newbies are football fans but it's not to be expected. Football was not a consideration in choosing their school. It was a big consideration for me when I chose SMU over NYU for my LL.M.

I didn't realize we were that close on Mewelde Moore. That would have been nice.

I saw the homecoming soccer match in 1987, and the next year I picked Duke over SMU (remember these were Spurrier days in Durham...).

Regarding the original post, I've been to plenty of home (TCU, Navy, Houston, Tech) games and a couple away (Houston, Rice) the last couple of years, which I count as pretty good since I'm not an alum and live 200 miles from Dallas.

I went to SMU because I used to listen to the SMU/Notre Dame games and was a Doak Walker fan. THAT is an old(er) fan of SMU! I've been going to The Egyptian for 58 years now! And I live in Arkansas!
