I don't think he will be drafted. I think there is going to be a lot of QBs coming out in this class that get a lot of hype and attention that will overshadow him. Guys like Murray (UGA), Johnny Paycheck (A&M), Mariotta (Oregon), Guyton (Ohio S), AJ McCarron (Bama). This is a really deep class for QBs. Some of them are going to be still on the board in later rounds for value hunters. I think it is a numbers game that doesn't work in is favor.
Taking this one step at a time. He first needs to get invited to the combine (at least as a practice arm for the receivers) so GMs can take the measurements and have the interviews. I'm hoping his stats from this season will get him the invite. When facing adversity this season, he has carried the entire offense on his back. I would love for him to get a shot.

I see GG a lot like I saw Josh McCown. Both have the physical tools, but I questioned how well they read defenses and some of the decisions they make under pressure. I hope for GG's sake he gets a shot at pro ball and can eventually earn a starting job. I'm not sure how many NFL stats Josh has had, but he has enjoyed a pretty decent pro career

As for Gilbert's intelligence, when you talk to him he is extremely well spoken and likable. So I think he would interview very well should he go to the combine. Obviously he's been coached up from a young age, because he already treats the media just like a pro –– he never makes a misstatement and is always politically correct. Sometimes you wish he'd step out of character and rag on a teammate or opponent, but that never happens. Based on his current completion %, I don't think there will be many lingering questions about his decision making either. Since the name Josh McCown has come up, I would suggest Mr. Gilbert familiarize himself with Josh's combine story -- it's a good lessen. Josh was drafted (IMHO) solely based on what he did at the NFL combine.

This from a friend of mine at work that has no connection to SMU but is a sports fan..."He's had a great season and a monster of a game against Temple. That would be great if he was drafted. To me he looks like he could go into the pro's and if given some time to see the game as a back up, he could turn into a legitimate starter. Looking around the NFL this season, there are some bad starters and even worse back ups. He is an exciting qb to watch."
For what it's worth, I think my friend it correct.

No question Gilbert gets a look. He is showing that when he gets comfortable in a system he is incredibly effective

I could definitely seeing him going somewhere as an UDFA. I'd be surprised if he were a late round pick...watch this year's TCU game if you want to know why, but he definitely has all the physical tools that NFL teams are looking for
June Jones and Mike Shanahan are pretty good friends- If the Redskins part ways with Cousins by trade or cut Grossman after this year, I wouldnt be shocked to see GG in DC for minicamp

If GG continues this torrid pace, he will be drafted. Consensus top recruit of high school, played well in the national championship game, and seems to have conquered whatever lingering confidence and maturity issues there were. Big time lockerroom guy too.

This is silly.... He's not going to get drafted. He will get looks as a UDFA because of his physical tools and will have to be a camp star to make a roster, but I think practice squad is his best shot. He was garbage at Texas, garbage last year and is only now having success playing in what amounts to a gimmick offense with tons of short crossing routes. I was a huge critic of him last year, and yes, he has played 1000x times better and shut me up, but you can't overlook how he's played against tougher competition, which is not well. He beat up on Temple and Memphis. COOL. Please stop kidding yourselves about him getting drafted. I like the guy and wish he had another year of eligibility, but there have been tons of QB's in recent years who weren't drafted and who played at a higher level. And anyone who cites "he played well in the national championship game" he threw 4 picks. Since when is that playing well? Stop drinking to cool aid.

to a large extent it depends on how he plays the rest of the season. yes he looked good against poor competition but our d looked horrible against poor competition. my guess is that he gets drafted and makes a team. lots of teams out there looking for qbs.
