Thought I heard on the radio this morning that The Pirate may have something to do with where he ends up....is he "waving his sword" at his previous employer ?

IIRC any of the b12 schools can block one of their transfers from going to another b12 school on a scholly for one year- walk-on or not. I believe that is a b12 rule and if the school wants they can waive the rule but few seldom do.

He's more than welcome to join the Big East though...I'm sure we can set him up with a nice scholly and make him our starter for 2015...

Just a quick point - we are in the American Conference (AAC) - not Big East.

After watching GG and the season he has had - not to mention looking at the record of taking kids who were not recruited by ANYBODY and making them darkhorse NFL candidates - every QB in the country needs to look at playing for JJ.

But he's a football player, not a basketball player.

I know, it's just that "Big East" sounds more glamorous than "AAC"

As per the DMN: Texas Tech can only block scholarship offers. Mayfield can choose anywhere he wants -- even a Big 12 school -- if he chooses to walk on again.

He would still have to sit a year.

My guess is he feels he has proven himself scholarship worthy and will attempt to secure a scholarship offer from a better school. After all, like someone on here said, he wanted to attend TCU coming out of high school but did not receive an offer. I would think TCU, Baylor and SMU would all be candidates for scholarship offer.

Maybe JJ should initiate a call to some of the higher caliber kids in high school instead of waiting for them to call him. Isn't that part of the issue here.

I think he should come to Blinn for a year, like Cam Newton. Then transfer to a D1 school, like Cam Newton.
It was pretty amazing to watch Newton play in a high school stadium.

If he has decent offers that he likes-it would not be smart at all for him to go to JUCO. Newton got kicked out of Florida after being involved in a theft so he had to go to JUCO. This kid doesn't have to go JUCO. If he has a good offer he can immediately transfer and take part of speing proctice and fall practice and learn the offense. If he goes JUCO he will lose a year in learning the offense and is gambling that he doesn't get hurt and sucks at the JUCO or doesn't start at JUCO. The only reason to go to JUCO would be if he doesn't have any good offers. Big Mistake going to JUCO in this situation otherwise

I believe Newton went to Florida not Florida State.

I agree on all points about Mayfield. It was just amazing to watch a guy a year away from the Heisman play against JUCO competition.
