I'm not sure the Houston Coogs would say "the guy can coach."
(And why can't SMU stay on the field with UH in Year 6 of JJ?)

Then there's @Wash.St., when JJ refused to run out the clock with Shawnbrey, had an ill Bo Levi keep throwing, and lost; the Navy-nut JJ can't crack; the loss to Army in a home bowl game .............

When he was hired he did say that he had a personal reason for taking the job that he wouldn't share until he was ready

I think I would rephrase some earlier comments...

I think June would rather negotiate pay raises for some of his assistants than spend extra money hiring really good recruiters into the staff.

It was transformational that we suspended the trot of shame. That's when I knew June was truly a change agent.

His faults are his stubbornness, ego and laziness and you'd be willing to throw more $ at the problem in 'hopes' that this 60 year-old will change?

Pretty remarkable and makes me realize some of you guys have never come close to making a real executive decision in your lives.

I don't think you intended to respond to me but your comments are dead on. People are looking for ways to keep June and not looking for what is best for the program.

I was responding to you in agreement.

Should have said, 'some' would be willing to throw more $ at the problem, not 'you'

Funny thing, Marshall won like 9 games this year, something JJ has never done. I bet their coach isnt making as much as him. just saying

I will always believe his personal reason was for a win against a recognized big name program in a bowl game or otherwise - revenge for the fiasco against Georgia in the Sugar.

I do not believe it was a "personal" reason. What I heard was that he had a "specific" reason for which he was hired. That reason, as I understood was to get us into a BCS conference and he achieved that goal. It is a shame that the landscape and rules changed along the way but I will say that he did accomplish the purpose for which he was hired.

Now, in my opinion we need to move on to a coach with the goal to improve the team and get us to the level of a top 20 team.

I believe the "reason" turned out to be his South Dallas ministry, right?

Fresno Mustang wrote:Is June honestly a good coach anymore? 3 years ago I would have agreed with you here, but after this year I think otherwise. Yeah the argument can be made that we could have won a few more games with more talent, but i think we could have one 3-4 more games this year with a better game plan and play calling. I just think the run n shoot is predictable and outdated and other than one pistol package installed and a somewhat no huddle offense we haven't evolved. Even Jon Gruden was a rn n shoot guy in the 80's but transformed into a west coast Offense, I think June is outdated and is best served as a qb coach somewhere at this point

In the first 4 games we were clearly out coached, out schemed, out played, lack of talent....etc. In all but 2 games we showed up flat and not ready to play and immediately got into trouble. I agree with Fresno that something is missing and it rests with the coaching staff. Hence, I can no longer defend his coaching despite the fact that he made radical changes to improve by adopting the hurry up offense and parts of the Air Raid scheme which were badly needed.
