So why are you an SMU fan, then?
There are more ways to express fandom than synchronized chanting of a certain phrase. I'm all for screaming and yelling and making noise, but the whole red... blue... or S... M... U... thing is never going to work and it just makes us look bad when we try.

I think this attitude is the precise reason why these cheers don't work. "The students are chanting but not too many around me seem to notice so I better not join in."
Congratulations. You are the problem.

Obviously we need more redneck SMU students instead of sissy rich kids.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Not sure what "redneck" has to do with it pk

At kickoff the season ticket side can yell "Red" and then when the students show up in the second quarter they can yell "Blue". It'll catch the visiting team off guard.

Probably used the wrong term. I was thinking in generic terms...sort of like Tech fans. Tend not to be "cool". More rowdy and vociferous. Anyway it was just a joke.

Thanks SMUer. That is precisely why I started the thread and precisely the attitudes we need to change. We change by doing! I'll do it at every Moody and Ford game. Others will join me!

Three thoughts on this thread: (1) I like the "Horse-Power " idea; (2) it's not true that chants won't work at Ford. HP fans yell and cheer, and it's almost the same crowd; and (3) nothing will help develop actual cheering in Ford as the excitement and cheers generated in the new Moody.

I think that's the idea behind the new marketing for BBall...if it is a success, it will permeate into larger crowds at Ford and new cheers/traditions. Remember they will serve booze at Moody and Ford from 2014 to eternity!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Totally disagree that HP fans are "almost the same crowd." I went to both schools and still go to games for both schools. HP has a tradition of winning, most adult fans have gone to a university with a winning program, and a third of the home crowd represents active high school students, a sixth of the crowd are families of players/students, and another sixth are under high school-aged kids. Otherwise, I agree on the excitement at Moody.
