Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie Strongi think he deserves it and its a great hire - i am just saying that his race is part of the draw for UT here. The selection committee and AD discussed that for sure and see it as a plus. I know we aren't supposed to talk about that - but you could make the point with as many AA players in college football, that increasing the number of AA coaches is overdue.
Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie Strong
Agreed. Strong is a great hire for UT. He is the most qualified available candidate. No doubt.
Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie StrongGreat hire, but since he was like number 6 or 7 on their list, will the entitled crowd put up with a less than 11 win season from this guy? UT has always had their choice of recruits. Mac Brown seemed to always have a top 10 recruiting year, every year. He just chose the wrong QB's (or didn't develop the ones he had). Didn't offer RGIII or JM, lost to Alabama on the McCarron. As UVA showed, having a top 10 recruiting year, doesn't guarantee success on the field. Some of the UT folks don't like the hire because Strong has never been a back slapping, golfing, glad hander which as we all know is part of the job at UT. But if he wins 11 games next year, they'll overlook that. The key is winning. If he does that, he'll be just what the doctor ordered and I expect, he'll do that, unfortunately.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie StrongStrong was actually the fan favorite other than Saban and the Harbaughs-very popular choice

Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie StrongLouisville Courier Journal is really hoping that the delay means that he won't take the job, as do the Cardinal fans.
Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie Strongwill Strong become the next in a long list of guys who are using Texas to get pay raises and contract extensions?
Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie Strong
This. Strong was the best choice for the job. The other names were absolutely unrealistic and were never going to happen. Race has absolutely nothing to do with it - he has a great resume, great recruiting ties, and will do a fantastic job. The Vandy coach is too emotional and won't do well at a major school.
Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie StrongIf Strong was truly their 6th choice it was because they were stupid and unrealistic. Saban and NFL coaches weren't coming.
They got the best coach available.
Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie Stronggreat hire for Texas. I've been high on this guy since he was a DC at South Carolina before taking the same job at Florida. I remember wishing SMU would have pursued him years ago before he got the Louisville job. He was originally from Arkansas so I thought we might appeal to him, but probably not given our reputation when Bennett was hired. Won't take him long to get Texas back on top of the Big XII
Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie StrongI hear that Strong was probably 6th or 7th on their list, but he may be the best choice. It is discouraging that in 2014 I have overheard grumbling about Strong's mixed race marriage. Although I cannot stand the Horns, I hope that the race issue doesn't simmer under the surface. So far, it appears that the old time Longhorn players are falling in line behind the choice. I hope that he and his family have a very positive experience when the travel around the state.
Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie Strong
I think Stallion was saying race had something to do with him not getting a job 5 or 6 year befire he got the one at Louisville. And he is probably right. Franklin would have done a fine job as well. Vandy coach has fire just like Sumlin and Sumlin is doing well at a major school. I would have taken Franklin personally but I think Strong could do well. Re: Bobby Burton-247.com: UT to Hire Charlie StrongRed McCombs has set off a firestorm on Texas message board-I don't think I've read 1 poster in a 500 post thread that thought his statement was acceptable. They may tear down his statue. He might as well have said: "I think Charlie is a fine Boy but we got high standards at the Country Club". Red McCombs is the caricature of State U. Booster Big Jim Jack on the Ticket
